Let's Rescue Ryan Zamites!
Donation protected
Under normal circumstances, my nephew Ryan is a walking musical in spite of his autism and intellectual and developmental delays (IDD). However, over the past year, his health has collapsed. He’s had 10 grand mal epileptic seizures since January 2021, which can be life-threatening and sometimes require a visit to the ER or a seizure clinic. Persistent diarrhea caused him to lose 30 pounds. He also suffers from chronic migraines, insomnia, and acidosis. All of these things together have left him bed-bound for most of the past year. Melissa and James are his primary caregivers, and they’re next to exhaustion from the 24-hour care he requires and the burden of concern for their son.
Melissa and James have gotten his primary care doctor and neurologist to form a team to assess Ryan holistically and create a unified plan of care for him. A Harvard immunologist is trying to get Ryan into her experimental program, which would also look at his condition holistically.
There is an organization of medical professionals-in-training who are looking for live-in internships with special needs adults with health concerns. One of these would be ideal for helping with Ryan’s care and providing some respite to his parents.
$30,000 will help cover the intern’s stipend while – Lord willing! – the upcoming changes to his care stabilize his health. Please consider helping Rescue Ryan in this way.
