Hi, my name is Cindy, I am a dear friend of Zach and Chelsa's. I have started this fundraiser for Zach and Chelsa to hopefully alleviate one small stressor from their lives, the financial one...
On February 26th, 2023, our friend Zach; aka Rudy Zagar, was involved in a horrendous ATV accident. Sunday around 7:00 pm Zach went for a ride on his “quad” as he had done many times when suddenly, he lost control of the machine he had grown to love. Zach was thrown from the ATV and flew several feet through the air. Unfortunately, he was met by the hard pavement below him and suffered a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), several fractured ribs, and abrasions. Zach was life-flighted to Downtown Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Iowa. Zach was placed on a ventilator at first but miraculously was able to breathe on his own within 48 hours.
Zach is as “extrovert” as one could be. When Zach walks into a room he fills it with positive energy and smiles. He is never without a story to tell, a hug to share, or a high-five to give. To say Zach is “one of a kind” is an understatement. He works hard, loves his family (and friends) even harder and enjoys life to the extreme!
Zach and his wife Chelsa are no strangers to the outdoors. For 25 years, they have enjoyed camping, hiking, rafting, and taking road trips in their 1984 Volkswagen Westfalia. Chelsa and Zach grew up in Iowa, where they met in high school. After college, they moved to Montana where they spent several great years adventuring together.
It’s in Montana where their family of two, grew to a family of three with the addition of their son Olan, who is now 3.5 years old. After Olan was born, they decided to move back to Iowa to be closer to their families. Two years ago, they welcomed their daughter Frazey into their family. Chelsa and Zach, a young couple in their thirties with two little children, have quite a journey ahead of them. Chelsa will be the primary caregiver for Zach upon his return home and per the extraordinary medical team at Downtown Methodist hospital, it will be several months before Zach can work again.
Zach is a fighter, but he has a long road ahead of him as far as recovery. He is going to need Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. This Go-Fund-Me was set up to help lessen the financial strain on this family so Chelsa can focus on taking care of Zach and the kids.
