Let's Rally Behind Coach Radford Dudoit

Aloha Friends and Ohana,

My name is Zabrina. My husband as you all know is coach Radford or Ka’imi. He is the head coach for Kalani High School football team and worked there as security.

I’m on here to tell you about my journey with my husband in the last 7 and ½ months and why I am starting this page.

Before I start, I want to give a BIG shout out to all the supporters for the love, prayers, and donations. Honestly, I don’t know how I made it this far without you all.

On June 15th my husband went in for a routine procedure to repair his aortic valve. There were complications in which he was put on a few machines to keep him alive. I was scared I was going to lose him. He then had arrhythmias which caused more concerns. The doctors at Queens reached out to doctors at Stanford medical center to see if they could help him by doing an ablation procedure. Since Ka’imi was very sick there was a hesitant to accept him. After a week we got word that they will accept him. On July 9th he flew on a private jet with his son while I flew on Southwest to San Jose. We were in Palo Alto from July 9th to August 17th. It was an experience for me because most of the time I didn’t have my family. Throughout our stay my sisters, my daughter, and his cousin flew down to be there for us. I ended up flying his sisters there too because he wanted them to be there. His cousins who live in California and Nevada periodically came to visit. When our family weren’t there, I would sleep over the hospital. There were no showers at the hospital so I would go to The Ronald Mcdonald House to take showers and wash clothes. The money we raised from the Go Fund Me page that my sister made helped me pay for rent, electricity, phone bill, car rental in California, hotel stay when family came down, food, and necessities I needed. When I was in California, I got an ear infection that lasted 2 weeks and on my cycle which was painful, but I shook it off to support Ka’imi.

Ka’imi had his tube taken out of his mouth on July 12th. The doctors told us he wouldn’t speak for 24 to 48 hours but he started to speak right away. He was able to get a cat and pet scan. When the doctors got the results, they advised us they couldn’t do the ablation because they found blood clots and fungus. It was high risk. The only thing they could do at Stanford is his amputation of both legs. They also were taking care of his wounds he had. It was hard for both of us especially him. It was hard seeing him go through this physically and mentally. But he kept fighting.

Our youngest daughter Zienna could not stay with me in California and had to fly back to Hawai'i because she was starting her senior year at Kalani High School. Thank God my sister and father was there for her while I was taking care of my husband.

On August 17th we flew back home. Three days before our daughter Zienna's birthday. He went straight to Queens hospital. He was stable, talking, eating, and in great spirit. In the upcoming months he had to have surgery for both hands. Unfortunately, they had to amputate his left hand and amputate his middle finger on the right hand. He still had wounds to take care as well. He had some reconstructive surgeries for his legs. I gave away my shifts and was on personal leave throughout thus journey. On November 17th was my first day back to work. I went back once I knew he was good physically and mentally even though he was getting wound care. On December 15th he was discharged from the hospital and transferred to Rehab of the Pacific. He was there until December 30th and was able to come home. We weren’t fully ready but did what we could with what we had. He set up his doctor's appointments and was finally got to see what he’s been missing for the last 7 months. Due to some complications, he came back in the hospital on January 15th and has been in the hospital. There were some close calls, but my husband has been fighting every day. He had to get his right amputated.

I have been out of work since the 3rd week of December to take care of him and still here with him every day. This is only a little bit of my journey with my husband in the last 7 ½ months that I wanted to share.

It has been a crazy ride but with all the obstacles we both faced we kept going and with all the love and support from all of you we couldn’t have made it this far. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. We love you guys.
