Let's Pump Matthew Up!

Hi, I'm Erin and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend and co-worker Matthew Spady.
Matthew is in urgent need of a new insulin pump. His current pump has been malfunctioning since November 2021 and causing him much unnecessary stress as well as health complications related to Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an incurable disease that can be managed with proper medical treatment, but unfortunately Matthew's Oregon Health Plan insurance denied to cover the costs of a replacement pump. Without a functioning insulin pump, Matthew is facing serious and permanent health risks including kidney disease. He can't afford to wait any longer to get this pump and like most of us, he doesn't have an extra five thousand dollars lying around to cover the out of pocket cost. As a community, we can easily raise this amount of money so he can get his pump and move on with his life.
The pump Matthew needs is a Tandem T Slim X2 and costs around $5100. The additional $400 in funds will cover costs related to missed work and doctors visits.
Diabetes was the nation's seventh-leading cause of death in 2019, accounting for 87,647 deaths annually. These deaths are entirely preventable. Matthew is 29 years old and this is a critical time for him in his diabetes management. He works hard to take care of himself well and it has been very disheartening for him to have his efforts negated by something that is entirely outside of his control. This disease and the lack of support our for-profit health care system provides diabetics has already caused him so much needless suffering and negative health implications. We can alleviate that by pitching in to get him this pump as soon as possible!
