Hi there, my name is Jess and it’s entirely possible you don’t know me, but I happen to be someone who has a large network of friends and colleagues, and I also happen to know of a family in our community who could really use some support right now.

I’d like to take those two things and get one to help the other.

My goal is that this GoFundMe ends up in front of people who have never heard of Kathy Jo her husband Jay or their beautiful children, Riley Jo, Braden, or Grace Mae.. and that might sound like a weird thing to say, but it’s because I’m hoping that generous people in my life help me get this fundraiser out to other people who would otherwise never know that this family could use their help.

The immediate need right now is for storage and totes to salvage and save as much of their belongings as possible, as well as aid them in the displacement and cope with being stuck in temporary housing.

The reason for the larger number is a massive tree completely destroyed this families home a couple weeks ago and they’re now stuck living in a hotel until insurance (hopefully) comes through to help them find long-term (temporary) housing while they’re home is literally rebuilt from the foundation up.

Not only did the tree completely destroy their home. It also sent their special needs, nonverbal daughter, Riley Jo’s already compromised health into a downward spiral from the massive amount of debris that surrounded her when the tree fell just 3 feet from Riley Jo in her bed.

Unfortunately, tragedy is nothing new for this West Michigan family, their son Braden was active duty military when he was killed and taken from them in March of 2023. This tree incident also happens to fall within weeks of the anniversary of the passing of their daughter Gracie, who was born premature.

Kathy Jo has endured and suffered through anxiety with panic attacks since the passing of her son, all while being the main care giver to her daughter Riley Jo.

After the tree destroyed their home, Kathy Jo has had to take time off work to care for her ill child and to give herself time cope and try to protect her mental health.

Can you imagine dealing with all of that, while living in a hotel, away from everything that typically would bring you comfort and the sense of safety?

I would love to pull together A LOT more than my initial ask of $2,500, but I know that this approachable number can help build momentum and definitely give them the funds to do what needs to be done this week.. and get their house cleaned out.

THAT is how we come together and reach this goal, and HOPEFULLY blow it out of the water.

They’ve suffered more loss than any one should ever have to feel, let’s show them that there’s great people out there who care, and want to help, and show them they’re not alone.
