Today I met Claudette and her daughter at the store.
I asked if they could help me buy some baby food, and without hesitation, they offered to pay for it through sign language.
To reward their kindness, I surprised them with $500.
They immediately began to cry.
That’s when they shared what they’ve been going through.
Claudette is battling esophageal cancer and has lost her ability to speak. The medical bills have piled up, they just received an eviction notice, and now they’re terrified they could end up homeless.
They don’t even have a car.
Earlier, Claudette had taken an Uber from the hospital, but the driver accidentally dropped her off five miles away from where she needed to be. Unable to speak and with no car or easy way to explain what had happened, she was left stranded in an already incredibly difficult season of her life.
And somehow, after everything they’re facing, when a stranger asked them for help buying baby food, their first response was still to give.
They showed kindness when they desperately needed kindness themselves.
Let’s make sure Claudette and her daughter don’t have to wonder where they’re going to live next.
Let’s change their life.
Do your thing, internet ❤️
