LET’S NOT GIVE UP ON MARCUS

My dear friends,

It is never easy to ask for help in a time of need, that’s why I am asking for your help now on behalf of my good friend Paulina and her three kids ages 14, 15 and 17.  Her husband Marcus and his mother were both hospitalized on Christmas day last year with Covid-19 induced pneumonia. They both were intubated, unfortunately his mom passed away, but Marcus kept on fighting. Marcus spent three months in a coma intubated in ICU where every possible illness happened to him, and he had very little chance of survival or even waking up for that matter.  After the first two traumatizing months for Paulina and her kids, the doctors told Paulina that they didn’t see Marcus recovering from his current state. They told Paulina that it was time for her to make the decision to take Marcus off the breathing tube and to let Marcus go.  With her kids just losing their beloved grandma, Paulina was completely broken and couldn’t even think about them losing their father too. If Marcus was still fighting, Paulina was not going to give up on him, and she certainly wasn’t going to give up on hope and that God could make a miracle happen. After 3 months of being in the ICU Marcus woke up! The doctors and staff couldn’t believe it, they said it was truly a miracle. Although Marcus did not recognize his wife and kids or even remember having a wife, Paulina’s kids and family were very thankful he was awake and that they didn’t give up on him. After three and a half months being in the ICU Marcus was transferred to Holy Family Hospital where he was recuperating and after 4 months of being hospitalized, he was transferred to a rehabilitation center. Marcus was continuing to make improvement and Finally after 5 long hard months of fighting Marcus came home. Paulina was very grateful to have her husband home but knew that the next several months or years was going to be very difficult, and that Marcus had a long road to recovery. Paulina took a 3-month medical leave off from work so that she could care for her husband. Marcus had to start all over, learning how to eat, walk and speak and this was all under the care of Paulina. Only a strong loving wife like Paulina could do this as she had to care for him in every possible way. There have been many days where Paulina has completely broken down and felt like giving up overwhelmed by stress and anxiety of the days ahead of her. Marcus was a truck driver and had always been the main source income providing for his family. He will never be able to work again and that is why I am asking for any help you can give at this time. With medical bills piling up, this has put Paulina behind financially and she is even on the verge of bankruptcy. She is back to work, but it is still not enough to pay all the medical bills, family household bills or support their 3 high school teenagers. Marcus enjoyed fixing things for others and was always willing to give the shirt off his back for people in need. Marcus always donated for 6 children to the Leukemia/Cancer foundation for kids and right now he needs your help!! He needs continued physical therapy and without it has very little chance of getting back to a normal lifestyle. I am asking behalf of Paulina and her kids for any financial contributions to aid her in this long difficult endeavor. If Marcus and Paulina and Children have made it this far than please let’s not give up on them now! She will be very grateful for your support and any financial contribution raised will be going directly to Paulina herself. I pray that you can help, and I thank God for all of you who can!
