Let's Make Mobility Possible for Mike
Donation protected
I'm setting up this gofundme for my lifelong friend (from the time we were little kids growing up in the same neighborhood) Mike Northern. He needs some help that's explained in the following. It's been 8 years since he was first diagnosed. The doctors all said that he was not getting blood flow to his right leg. They told him that if they couldn't fix it, he would end up having his leg amputated. In a three and a half year span he had 14 major surgeries. Ten of his surgeries were at Duke. His first blood clot surgery was in Wilmington North Carolina. After his surgery, 3 days later his toe got infected. They ended up amputating his toe. Within days his leg got infected. so the doctors had to amputate his leg below his right knee. Because of that he cannot drive. A prosthetic does not have an ankle therefore it makes it impossible to drive. He's on a fixed income. Social security disability is what he lives on. He lives in a small house/cottage at the beach in NC but finds it very difficult to get around there with his walker. He would use his wheelchair, but his house has two steps. He can't get his wheelchair over those steps let alone any other steps. One of his biggest problems is that he keeps getting blood clots. Four more blood clot surgeries so far. Once he has a blood clot surgery he can no longer use his prosthetic leg. Once his leg is healed, he has to relearn to use his prosthetic. He is 200 yds from the beach but has never been there on his own. He had help one time and really enjoyed his time there, but there are times he'd like to go when he doesn't have anyone to help him. He can't always find a ride. If he were mobile, he could get to the church which is only one half a mile away among so many other places. If he had a mobile/step climbing wheelchair life would be so much easier for him. The problem is they are extremely expensive, and he doesn't have any money to spare. If you could donate to help him purchase one, he would be very grateful. He's a proud guy that doesn't like to ask for help from anyone. But when you have to, you have to.
Thank you for your consideration.
