URGENT FUNDRAISING APPEAL – LET’S FINISH THE HMF YOUTH CENTER

A safe space built from my own story — so no child feels abandoned the way I once did.

My name is Hubert Mweze, and I founded the Hubert Mweze Foundation (HMF) because I know what it feels like to grow up without safety, without opportunities, and without the simple right to be a child.

I lost my home to war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

I fled to Nakivale Refugee Settlement with nothing except hope.

I grew up in a place where children played in dust, studied under trees, and faced hunger, trauma, and loneliness every day.

But even in those difficult days, I promised myself something:

“If one day I survive this, I will come back and build a safe space for children who are walking the same painful path I walked.”

Today, that promise is becoming reality — but I need your help urgently.

We are building the HMF Youth Center in Nakivale, a place where more than 200 vulnerable children will learn, play, dream, and feel protected.

The young people of Nakivale have already worked tirelessly to raise the walls. What remains are the essential materials we cannot move forward without:

• Carpentry materials

• Roofing sheets

• Doors

• Windows

• Painting for classrooms and office

This is more than a building.

It is a symbol of hope, born from a journey of pain, resilience, and courage.

It is the safe space I wish I had when I was a refugee child.

It is a place where young people will heal, grow, and believe in their future.
