Let's Make a Makerspace

Donation protected
Hi, we're Alison and Mackenzie --
makers, small business owners, mothers and friends.

Born from the collective isolation of the pandemic, and our desire to be and share so much beyond our primary roles as mothers to young children, a shared vision has emerged.

Meet Makerspace Sellwood: A space for makers to create, learn, share, and commune in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.

Imagine with us...
  • a beautiful, minimalist workspace to create during open maker hours or host your event
  • a warm and engaging atmosphere to learn new skills and connect with other makers
  • a unique neighborhood spot to shop modern goods and gifts, as well as local maker pop-ups
  • a space designed at its core to uplift and empower the local maker community

Why Sellwood?

First and foremost, Sellwood is OUR community. The place we have chosen to raise our kids, to peruse the farmer's market, to support small businesses. And from our first-hand experience, the Sellwood community is looking for more opportunities to connect with family/friends/co-workers in authentic and creative ways.

While there are plenty of other retail shops in the area, Makerspace Sellwoodʼs unique niche will offer curated workshops (for all skill levels) while creating an engaging space for both creatives and the neighborhood to connect.

With the rise in popularity of Maker's Markets and DIY projects, the area is ripe for neighborhood support of creatives and community-building experiences. Makerspace Sellwood can provide a place to experience unique workshops and a gathering space for like-minded creatives.

Why us?

  • The Makerspace Sellwood team is comprised of Mackenzie Gray and Alison Osborn.
  • We are makers who connected as mothers, grew into true friends, and evolved into balanced business partners and chasers of big, exciting dreams over the years.
  • We bring nearly 13 years combined experience in the maker community in the fields of letterpress and ceramics, respectively.

  • Mackenzie brings 12 years of experience in the unique realm of letterpress with Cotton Flower Press and is eager to share her self-mastered skillset with the neighborhood, while Alison has spent the last year immersed in the maker community with A Handbuilt Ceramics, as well as teaching ceramics and the joy of clay to preschoolers around Portland.

  • We both bring social capital in the Portland Maker Community and unrivaled enthusiasm to Makerspace Sellwood.

Why Crowd Funding?

For us, at its very core, Makerspace Sellwood is a community -- and with that comes the beautiful opportunity to welcome those in our lives who have offered so generously to participate in the making of this space in a very real way.

These funds will go towards a minimal space buildout and initial operating costs for Makerspace Sellwood. We are planners through and through, and want to ensure we can walk into our first year in business with as much security, confidence and ability to take creative risks as possible.

We are so grateful for your contribution and participation in making Makerspace Sellwood.
