Hello. My name is Chelsea Rasmussen and I am a co-worker and friend to both Kristin Thorgren and Mark Owens. On Friday, March 14, 2025, the National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes struck St. Clair County, and unfortunately, part of that was Kristin and Mark's house. Thankfully, all their family was safe from any harm, but their house was not as lucky. They had three 200+ year-old pine trees that were lost in the storm. At least one landed directly on their house, causing major roof damage. Kristin, Mark, Anakin, and Rex went several days without power. There was substantial damage to not just their house but also their deck and yard. Although insurance will help pay for some of the cost of this damage, in the meantime, there are a lot of steps to get anything accomplished and fixed.
With our wonderful Midwest weather that continues to bring heavy rain and storms, the Thorgren/Owens family has to deal with rain coming into the house, which is continuing to add to their current damages. The most recent storms have caused more structural damage and have made their kitchen and parts of their house uninhabitable. The Thorgren/Owens family has not been able to use their kitchen to prep or cook food.
We were initially going to make a meal train for them. However, after some recent findings by inspectors and talking to other coworkers of ours, we have decided it would be more beneficial in the long run to do a GoFundMe and have them use the donated money as they feel fit to help with their ever-changing needs.
Anyone who knows Kristin and Mark knows they are both hardworking individuals who would never ask for any help. Both are dedicated healthcare workers who give themselves fully to their jobs. I have spoken with Kristin to express that this is not a handout by any means; this is all good karma for all the good things they bring just by being them. I hope we can help lighten this stressful time for them. Thank you all!
