Let's kickstart Miss Pepa's new life of luxury!

Tax deductible
The goal of this GoFundMe is to raise funds for two compassionate ladies who decided to take action and rescue a large farm pig recently found wandering lost and scared near Jacksonville, North Carolina. The funds will go toward the costs of transporting, vetting, and building the instructure required to contain and house this porcine beauty (named Miss Pepa). In addition, we are raising funds to help pay for neutering a male pig on one of the ladies’ properties. Any leftover funds will go toward purchasing nourishing food and straw to set up Miss Pepa for a long and healthy life ahead. 100% of the funds will go toward these pigs and their care.

Here is the backstory of this heartwarming rescue story.

We recently received a desperate email from a nice lady named Stephanie about a large female pig found wandering lost in her mom’s neighborhood in Pender County, NC. This area is heavy in commercial hog production, so this scenario is more common than you would think. Stephanie and her mom were able to contain the pig in a makeshift pen and provide food and water, but they were by no means set up to care for this big girl long term. To make matters worse, several of the neighbors were talking about butchering the pig for food.

When we learned about this situation, we knew we needed to take action. Unfortunately, our little sanctuary is beyond full, and so are all the other rescues out there. We are all just inundated with emails and phone calls of folks trying to find homes for unwanted or lost animals. It’s a constant stream of sorrow, and it never stops, thanks to greedy breeders and large-scale animal production operations (factory farming).

With other sanctuaries and rescue organizations full, we decided to reach out to our awesome community of supporters. We know there are thousands of kind folks out there doing good for animals. These are the folks who volunteer at sanctuaries, donate their hard-earned money to animal causes, attend events for animals, spread kindness about animals on their social media pages, choose a vegan lifestyle for the animals, and rescue animals from shelters instead of buying from breeders. We also know that many of these kind folks live on farms and might be able to provide either temporary or permanent shelter. Surely someone out there can take in this beautiful pig!

We started by sharing the pig’s story on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Then we asked our followers to share the story with their friends. And then we asked a whole slew of animal sanctuaries to share it with their supporters far and wide. Before long, the story was in hundreds of feeds across North Carolina and beyond. This is the power of social networking!

At first, we didn’t get a bite. We saw a lot of sympathy and willingness to share the story, but no one offered a foster or permanent home for the pig. We weren’t surprised, but we didn’t give up hope.

And then it happened. We saw a conversation taking shape on social media between two ladies about possibly taking in the pig and giving her a home. Of course, it’s a big decision and not one we take lightly. We understand the responsibility required to care for a pig this size, year after year. It’s expensive, and it takes work. It takes commitment and a lot of it!

Within a few days, these two ladies (Melissa and Holly) had reached out to Stephanie and her mom about visiting the pig. Once they met this beautiful animal in person and learned more about her situation, they were hooked. Holly decided she would offer her farm to the pig (now named Miss Pepa) as a permanent home. They returned back to the farm and started putting a plan in place to transport Pepa and build the required instructure (fencing and housing). We were beyond thrilled!

In appreciation for their kindness and compassion toward a pig who was surely destined to end up on someone’s plate, we are hosting this fundraiser to help kickstart Miss Pepa’s new life of luxury. We want Holly and Melissa to know how selfless and kind they’ve been to do such a wonderful act of love. Miss Pepa will live a life surrounded by affection from this point forward, something her piggie family was surely denied at the hands of the food industry.

Won’t you help us set up Melissa and Holly with all the funds they need to celebrate Pepa’s’s journey to paradise? I know we can do this!
