Stable Housing for Tío Gene, Indigequeer Activist
Hi friends,
I am here asking you to help support a person that has helped and given to the community time and time again. It is our duty and our honor to now give back to Gene.
If you don’t know about him, let me share a little bit. Tío Gene is a transmasc enby, disabled, Indigequeer Xicanx activist and mutual aid provider. He has been involved in many aspects of community care and the struggle for collective liberation. Recently he has been baking up tons of batches of fresh baked cookies every week to nourish our unhoused neighbors. He has provided meals, grab-and-go lunch sacks, clothing, and more. During the hottest day on record in Seattle (over 107 degrees), he handed out frozen water bottles and other life-saving supplies.
Gene also has the most adorable fluffy kitty. They have been together for 15 years. She is beautiful and also old and set in her ways.
P.S. if you are not a cat person, please disregard this tidbit and contribute $$$ anyway.
Tío Gene is physically disabled and neurodivergent; currently not able to work; going through a divorce so losing all income until he can get a disability lawyer and get disability approved.
Additionally, he anticipates losing housing as soon as eviction moratorium ends.
Let’s work together to ensure Gene and his cat have stable housing.
What the money will be used for:
- rent at approximately $700/mo for 12 months = roughly $8,400
- pet expenses possibly including pet deposit and/or pet rent and/or basic pet needs = roughly $1000
- GoFundMe fees
- Any additional amount would be used for moving expenses such as deposit and the cost of moving
Gene deserves this money for a number of reasons including how much he has personally invested in and provided to many communities; as well as the fact he is owed reparations. Thank you for contributing any amount as well as sharing and signal boosting this campaign. Everything adds up.
