Let’s Keep Flooded Ethiopian D’assenech Afloat
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tadesse, and I am raising funds to support Ethiopian D’assenetch herders living on the Ethio-Kenyan frontier on both sides of the mouth of the Omo River, where it meets Lake Turkana. The Dassenech have, for the third time, been caught by the flood waters of this river and the lake waters pushing back up river, hence conquering cultivable fields, dry season grazing lands, water wells and facilities such as schools and clinics. The floods have destroyed stored grains and medicines. Seventy-nine thousand people and their one million seven hundred forty thousand nine hundred fifty herds' lives are in complete jeopardy. Much of the territory is inaccessible due to the floods, and the floods from both the river and the push from the lake are feared to continue until mid-October. The situation might not change as it continues to rain in the mountains. I aim to raise GBP 14,000 to rebuild 44 classrooms and 22 residential rooms for teachers. My team, including Eshetu Ewnetu and Befetary Assefa, will cooperate to ensure good coordination when implementing this project. District administrator Ato Tadelle has supplied us with the flood recovery plan report. We have only picked a tiny portion of the total need the district administration team have listed as necessary for the rehabilitation project. Our choice was based on what our potential donors would likely afford to contribute to this noble cause.
I assure you, donors, that neither my team nor I will use funds to finance our per diems or travel costs.
