Lets Hugo's story be told in english too
Donation protected
My name is Laura, and I am the author of "Smiles and Tears for Hugo" an autobiography that chronicles our journey of having a baby with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia and navigating grief. I am originally from Spain, and while I was fortunate to experience exceptional bereavement care through the bereavement team at the National Maternity Hospital in Ireland, I soon learned that not every family has access to that level of support, especially in my home country.
I am deeply involved in creating awareness and visibility around perinatal loss and grief. Our little Hugo was born on April 24th, 2019. He taught me so much and introduced me to incredible people along the way. Our book was published in 2020 by a Spanish publisher, as I wanted to reach Spain and effect some change there.
I am a midwife, a lactation consultant, and a mother of two other girls. We live in Ireland and share our story with many people who would love to read our book. Our book is widely beneficial to other women experiencing grief, but also for health professionals, students midwives and nurses, and family members, but also to anyone wishing to learn how to help families going through their grief.
When I looked into translating it into English, the costs were quite high. I have sought funding from various organizations but have not had success. I decided to set up this initiative in the hope that every person who has mentioned, "What a pity, it's not in English; I would have loved to read it" can help make this project a reality. There’s no pressure—no big donations are needed. Little by little, we could go a long way.
Also, I am setting this up in October, as it is the month we especially remember all our babies gone too soon: Perinatal Loss Awareness Month. It is always lovely to focus on doing little things for my Hugo, especially during this month
I received a quote of €6,000 for the translation, and I will then print copies on demand.
Thanks for your help, support, and love throughout the last 5 years, 5 months, and 15 days since we lost Hugo. You all have a huge space in my heart, as you have helped in healing a broken heart.
Love
