Let's Help the Maple in the Square

Donation protected
The beautiful maple in the square is the last of 3 trees which once stood there.

A few years ago, the paving around the 3 trees in Sir John Hawkins Square in Plymouth was replaced with tarmac, restricting the ability of the trees to access water, and since this happened, 2 of them have sadly died.

We think that this tree makes a significant, positive contribution to the square - offering shade, a place for wildlife, and some colour - making it a much nicer place to be. Just imagine this space without this tree!

We hope to raise enough money to pay for a contractor to remove some of the tarmac, let the tree breath and allow the rainwater in - hopefully this will mean the maple will survive and keep the square as a lovely place to be.

With the help of local businesses, including Kitty O'Hanlans, Cosmic Kitchen and DBS Sound, the plan is to install a seat around the tree, which will keep people from walking on the soil around it and provide somewhere nice to sit. When the bench is installed, we also hope to carry out a volunteer day to tidy up the square, all help appreciated.

The purpose of this fundraiser is for the tree work only, not for the installation of the bench.

Plymouth Tree People is a local registered charity who plant, care for and help people learn about trees.

There's no time to waste - let's help this tree as soon as we can!
