Let’s help the Farquhar family!

Hello everyone, on behalf of the Locomotive Engineers of Teamster 747, I would like to ask for everyone’s help in raising money for the Farquhar family. Mike was a soon to be brother of 747 but unfortunately was diagnosed with a brain tumour before qualifying. His family has been through a whirlwind of health complications and financial struggles. So we would like to raise some donations to help the Farquhar family, Michael, Audrey and their two children Victoria and Cameron, with bills, and daily expenses.

Now for the backstory given to me by his strong Wife Audrey.

Michael Farquhar has been a railroader since January 2019 starting his career as a conductor with CP Rail and then joining the Via Rail family as part of the first Locomotive Engineer Apprentice Program class in November 2019 in Toronto.

Michael was due to qualify as a Locomotive Engineer with his classmates in Dec 2021 but due to Covid their training was put on pause. When he resumed training in March 2022 his expected qualifying date was December 2023/January 2024 which was in perfect time to welcome their new baby Cameron into the world.

In September 2023 Michael fell ill and while on vacation in October he was diagnosed with a large Brain Tumor. He underwent 9 hours of brain surgery at Toronto Western Hospital to remove the majority of the Tumor but there was some left that would require 6 weeks of radiation therapy at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Unfortunately 10 days after he was discharged, he was rushed back into the hospital with serious post operative complications. These complications have left him with multiple health problems which won’t allow Michael to return to work.

Michael’s current benefits run out July 2024. Unfortunately he was a few months away from qualifying and the benefit plan he was training under does not have long term disability. So this gofundme is to help with the finances until the family receives other forms of coverage, which could take months.
