-update from Kate’s fb “I’ve been pretty much in shock since Thursday and reality came crashing down on me last night. The fact that our lives have been forever changed medically, financially etc, plus the emotional toll that having a newborn in the NICU, when you’re supposed to be learning to nurse, juggle the chaos at home with kids and a newborn, holding your new baby 24/7, letting his siblings bond with him, being able to talk to him 24/7….all of that is gone, for now. And even though I know it will be back, and we will learn a new normal, and we will all bond, this is soul crushing for me. Our amazing nurse told me that the NICU is somewhat of a grieving journey, even when your baby is doing well. You grieve all the things you thought would be once your baby is here. He said that is normal and okay. That’s what I’m going through right now, so I’d appreciate prayers for that. Thank you friends❤️”
Hi, I am Meekala, and my best friend is Kate Landon. Her and her husband, Jason, along with their 2 children Micah and Sadie just welcomed a third surprise baby on June 13th, Sawyer James Landon all appeared well at first, but as he began to stop eating and didn’t not pass his first poop he became inconsolable and it was clear something was wrong. Fortunately the doctors sprang into action quick and they were transferred to cooks children’s. The team at Cook’s worked very quickly to figure out he had a massive bowel perforation and needed emergency surgery. Surgery took about two hours and was successful. During surgery, they removed about 25% of his colon that was necrotic. For now, the acute problem is solved, his vitals are great and they are allowing him to slowly wake up. He was placed with an ostomy bag and potential reattachment of his intestines at this point. Because of that, we are looking at a 6-8 week nicu stay. They are running tests collected from samples of his colon and the blockage to determine if this was a one time thing or could be something more serious. Only time will tell but we know it is all in God’s hands.
if you know the Landon’s you know Jason is one of the the hardest working men alive. He trucks the Dalton highway in Alaska (yes ice road trucker style) and has to be away from them for weeks at a time. It is uncertain how much of the medical expenses will be covered by insurance and even if that pulls through we all know the burden even the co pays of a major stay like this can cripple a family. Let’s help them out with these unforeseen costs, and maybe easy the burden for them for now so Jason doesn’t have to return to work next week and be separated from his family in a time where he is so deeply needed.
Please share and pray for the Landon’s and a full recovery for baby Sawyer❤️❤️❤️
