Our amazing friend and family member needs our help. As many of you know, Amy had a job she loved as a lab technician at a hospital and is an incredibly talented artist. She is also a devoted and loving mother, wife, friend and just a treat to be around. Her enthusiasm and zest for life is uplifting and contagious. With a heart full of laughter and love, Amy would give you the shirt off her back if you needed one, and keep you laughing the whole time she did it. Now is our chance to show her how much we love and appreciate her.
On April 15th, 2023 Amy was assaulted by a man in the emergency department while doing her job, resulting in damage to her dominant (right) arm. After months of physical therapy and trying to heal, she underwent surgery to attempt to repair the damage on Sept. 28, 2023. Many treatments and specialists later, in May of 2024 Amy was given the life changing diagnosis of Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, also known as CRPS https://www.thesperoclinic.com/resources/videos/the-most-painful-disorder-known-to-humans-meet-the-suicide-disease/
CRPS is a debilitating disease with very little treatment options here in Canada. Although Amy has managed to teach herself to do everything with her left hand, including her art (which is still amazing), She is unable to continue working, lives in constant pain, tired and weak all the time, and is now experiencing other symptoms related to her CRPS. It has now graduated to include vomiting, digestive issues and excessive weight loss, leaving her at a size and weight she hasn’t seen since high school.
But now, after over 2 years of excruciating pain, all of the treatments , appointments and brutal side effects from the medications, Amy has spent hours upon hours researching and speaking to people in similar situations and has found a bit of hope. Neridronate is a treatment that is designed to significantly reduce or even potentially eliminate CRPS symptoms but unfortunately this treatment is only available in Italy. (https://www.crps-treatment.com)This clinic has helped over 2000 patients with a 98% success rate and Amy has successfully completed her assessment. Her next step is to just GO! This is where we come in…The treatment will cost approximately $41 000 not including accommodation and airfare, which adds an additional $3000-$4000 at least. Every donation and /or share of this page will go a long way to getting Amy her life back. If the goal is met, Amy has committed to contributing anything above and beyond to charities that advocate, educate, support and promote awareness for CRPS and fund research into causes and treatments for this awful disease.
