Let's Help Ronnie Get Knee Surgery - Fundraiser

Hola Amigos. I am fundraising for my friend, Ronnie Mora, because he had a terrible motorcycle accident this past April and badly injured his knee.

Currently, even though he can walk (but not well), he can NOT run, jump or be too active.

This makes it very hard for him to do the physically hard work such as landscaping or teaching surf lessons to earn decent money or do the everyday activities that bring him joy.

His doctor has stated that Ronnie will need to get Knee Arthroscopy + Reconstruction of LCM and LCP Ligaments + Meniscus Correction surgery.

It turns out that there are only a few doctors in Costa Rica who can perform this kind of operation successfully. Unfortunately, those doctors do not take insurance.

The surgery is expensive. Ronnie has sent me the estimates from the doctors and hospitals, and the medical fees are estimated to be around $6000. (Given there are no complications, otherwise it will cost more.)

I cannot imagine how hard it must be for the average Costa Rican to earn enough money to cover those expenses.

One of the reasons I love Matapalo so much is because of the community. The one we have in Matapalo is special --- The people care about each other, and have each other's backs. This is rare and you do not find that in most places.

Whenever Austin and I have had a problem down there, our friends and neighbors have come to our aid. THANK YOU!

That is why I thought it would be nice to start a GoFundMe for Ronnie.

Really, without the community's help, I am not sure when or if he will be able to get the surgery he needs.

However, with your support, I know we can raise the money he needs to live an active, full and meaningful life and support himself.

Estoy recaudando fondos para mi amigo Ronnie Mora. En abril, el tuvo un terrible accidente en motocicleta y se lastimó gravemente la rodilla.

Actualmente, aunque puede caminar (pero no bien), NO puede correr, saltar o estar muy activo.

Se le hace muy difícil trabajar físicamente, jardineria or enseñar lecciones de surf para ganar un dinero o hacer las actividades que le gusta.

Su médico ha dicho que Ronnie necesitará someterse a una artroscopia de rodilla + reconstrucción de ligamentos LCM y LCP + cirugía de corrección de menisco.

Resulta que solo hay unos pocos médicos en Costa Rica que pueden realizar este tipo de operación con éxito. Desafortunadamente, esos médicos no aceptan seguro.

La cirugía es costosa. Ronnie me ha enviado los presupuestos de los médicos y hospitales, y los honorarios médicos se estiman en alrededor de $6000. (Dado que no hay complicaciones, de lo contrario costará más).

No puedo imaginar lo difícil que debe ser para el ganar suficiente dinero para cubrir esos gastos.

Una de las razones por las que amo tanto a Matapalo es por la comunidad. La que tenemos en Matapalo es especial --- Las personas se preocupan unas por otras y se apoyan mutuamente. Esto es algo que no se encuentra en la mayoría de lugares.

Cada vez que Austin y yo hemos tenido un problema allí, nuestros amigos y vecinos nos apoyan y ayudan. ¡GRACIAS!

Por eso pensé que sería bueno comenzar un GoFundMe para Ronnie.

Realmente, sin nuestra ayuda, no estoy seguro de si podrá someterse a la cirugía que necesita ni cuándo.

Sin embargo, con su ayuda, sé que podemos recaudar el dinero que necesita para que pueda vivir una vida activa, y significativa.
