Let's help Pablo realize his dream

My name is Jose Pablo Gil, I was at 13 a top tennis player in Costa Rica. I went to play tennis in the US where I completed High School and then received a tennis scholarship to attend University. My future could not have been any brighter.

One fateful night in 2016 just three days before school started, I went out to dinner with friends to celebrate this new chapter in my life. On our way home our car was hit in a truly horrific accident. I suffered fractures to my pelvis and spine, as well as a punctured lung and a blood clot in my brain. I was in a coma for two weeks and my family was on occasion asked to say a final goodbye. It was the most intense struggle of my life. I fought to live but was paralyzed from the waist down. My future in tennis seemed gone forever.

At my young age, there was no time to feel sorry for myself. I put myself through intense rehabilitation and soon discovered the world of wheelchair tennis. Within six months of my accident, I became the first Costa Rican to compete internationally. I have worked very hard these past 3 years and am now ranked 36th in the world. I also had the privilege of representing my country in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. And my current dream is to compete in Paris in 2024.

I was immensely blessed through my recovery since I could not be where I am today if not for all the support from friends and family. Sadly, this is not enough as there is a tremendous economic need in my path to Paris 2024 as I need to travel to compete in: USA, Turkey, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Spain, Poland, Israel, Canada, and Colombia. I am hoping to be able to raise $60,000 to help with the next two years of travel and preparation.
