Let's help our Levee buddy Marty Carpenter!

Friends of Marty Carpenter,
It’s another year, and another one of our friends, that has friends both in and out of the Kansas City music scene needs our help. Most notably to me, he’s one of our Levee Family.
I spoke with Marty a short time ago and found out he is scheduled to have heart surgery tomorrow (Monday the 15th) and he and his family are in a tough situation. It wasn’t easy getting information, he’s pretty upset and I impressed on him this is no way to go into surgery. He’ll be out of work for at least 2 months, maybe 3, and as we all know the bills don’t stop. Judging from his agitated state I wondered if he was worried more about money than the surgery, and if they needed any financial help. That’s never an easy answer for folks that are proud, and I applaud him for being honest with me, I know it wasn’t easy. There’s a lot of strength that goes along with that characteristic, which makes me proud to be able to call he and his wife friends.
Thankfully they have health insurance, but that leaves a matter of mortgage, car payments and everything else that goes along with it. I imagine many of us have been in this terrible position at one time or another, or know someone who has. Well, this is the best way to rally round and help. We talked about setting up a GoFundMe page, and given the fact either of them had done it before and didn’t know where to start. I offered to do it for them, he talked to Peggy and they gave me the honor.
After we hung up, this came to mind. It certainly hits home.
