Dear Friends and coworkers,
I'm reaching out to all of you today to share the story of our dear friend and union sister, Nicole Hobin, who has been facing immense challenges along with her family.
In late June while at work Nicole was waiting to make her last train when suddenly she was unable to form a sentence, had almost complete loss of vision, her was heart racing and her was throat closing. She was seen by EMS in westside yard and they convinced her that she had had an anxiety attack. This is when she began her journey of seeing doctors and specialists and having tons of testing done.
Nicole later found out she had suffered a stroke. Although they cannot pinpoint the specific time. She has since been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 2. She will need brain surgery to reduce pressure to the cerebellum and spinal cord and restore the usual flow of spinal fluid.
Her journey has been further complicated by recent events. Her stepson suffered a traumatic brain injury and remains in a vegetative state. As a result, her husband Doug Hobin, who is also a LIRR employee and Master Sergeant for the 143 Airlift wing of Rhode Island National Guard has been unable to work, leaving their family in a tough financial situation.
Please let us come together as a community to offer our support and help ease the burden on Nicole and Doug during this challenging time. Our aim is to assist with medical expenses, daily necessities, and any other support they may need on their journey towards healing.
Let's rally together to show Nicole and her family that they're not alone. Your support and compassion will truly make a world of difference.
Thank you for joining us in this endeavor.
