Support for Nelly Perdomo: Urgent Brain Surgery Needed

Hello! My name is Nelly Perdomo de Flores, I’m 76 y/o retired teacher born and living in Venezuela. About 17 years ago, I was diagnosed with pituitary macroadenoma which is the same as a Benign tumor of pituitary. As a fallow up procedure, in 2007 I had a transsphenoidal surgery when the tumor was 0.78in (2cms) and according to the results of the biopsy the tumor is positive to the prolactin hormone, what means that is a slow and progressive growth tumor that affects my ability to see. In 2020 after a follow up resonance the neurosurgeon recommended me to have another surgery but it wasn’t possible due to financial limitations. Right now, the tumor has grown to 1.57in (4cms) and I have severe troubles to see, I already cannot see thru my right eye, I have blurred vision, I cannot be by myself in any place, I cannot drive and I’m very limited to do many things due to lack of vision. If I don’t have this surgery, I can lose completely my vision.

The cost of this surgery is around $12,350 and with the current situation in my Country, it is impossible for me to have this amount. My monthly income as a retired teacher is $15 per month and I do not have social security to cover the costs or health insurance, and there is no place where I can have this procedure for free, and with the inflation my country suffer, this amount can raise up fast.

With your contribution the medical team will be able to perform a transsphenoidal approach with endoscopic and cerebral neuro-navigation to decompress what is possible.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Nelly Perdomo de Flores, tengo 76 años, soy maestra jubilada, nací y vivo en Venezuela. Hace unos 17 años, me diagnosticaron Macroadenoma Hipofisario, que es lo mismo que un Tumor Benigno de la Hipófisis. Como procedimiento de seguimiento, en el año 2007 me sometí a una cirugía transesfenoidal cuando el tumor medía 0.78 pulgadas (2cms) y de acuerdo a los resultados de la biopsia el tumor es positivo a la hormona prolactina, lo que significa que es un tumor de crecimiento lento y progresivo que afecta mi capacidad de ver. En el año 2020, después de una resonancia, el neurocirujano me recomendó someterme a otra cirugía, pero no fue posible debido a las limitaciones financieras. En este momento, el tumor ha crecido a 1,57 pulgadas (4 cm) y tengo problemas severos para ver, ya no puedo ver a través de mi ojo derecho, tengo visión borrosa, no puedo estar solo en ningún lugar, no puedo conducir y estoy muy limitada para hacer muchas cosas debido a la falta de visión. Si no me someto a esta cirugía, puedo perder la visión por completo.

El costo de esta cirugía es de alrededor de $12,350 y con la situación actual en mi país, es imposible para mi tener esta cantidad. Mi ingreso mensual como maestra jubilada es de $15 mensuales y no tengo seguro social para cubrir los costos ni seguro médico, además no hay ningún lugar donde pueda hacerme esta cirugía de forma gratuita. Y con la alta inflación que se vive en mi país, este monto puede aumentar rápidamente.
