First and foremost, I want to thank all of you who so generously contributed to our Go Fund Me Campaign for Mary in 2018. It made all the difference in the world as she navigated the challenges she faced recovering from her Traumatic Brain Injury and Breast Cancer Diagnosis. For those of you who may be new to Mary’s journey here is a recap:
In 2017 Mary suffered a traumatic brain injury. As a result of this injury, Mary had to learn to speak, walk and learn many of the normal daily activities of life all over again. It was a long and demanding task, but with the support of her family and friends, she gradually recovered. Unfortunately, as life goes, one year to the day of that accident, in 2018 at the young age of 37 she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer which required a double mastectomy, radiation, and chemotherapy. This type of cancer is extremely challenging but in 2019 she “rang the bell” and the doctors declared her cancer free. The money that was contributed to that Go Fund Me helped Mary pay her significant medical bills, as well as, her living expenses until she could return to work which she ultimately did. That support not only helped her financially, but gave her the spirit and determination to face these challenges with strength and optimism.
Then in Dec. 2024 her employment of 12 years came to an end. She pursued owning a Notary Business but is now also looking for a full time job. In the current market many people are having difficulty finding employment; however, Mary faces a unique challenge. Because of the nature of the cancer diagnosis, Mary had to be treated with an aggressive form of chemotherapy which has resulted in many chronic conditions that require on-going procedures and medical interventions. Unfortunately, the chemo did not just attack the cancer it indiscriminately damaged other organs and important bodily functions. She has had multiple surgeries/procedures on her gastrointestinal tract, including her stomach, and additional surgeries to remove scar tissue from her mastectomy. During this surgery the doctor found the cancer had returned and took steps to remove it. This surgery was followed by yet another emergency surgery due to a hematoma.
In 2024-2025 Mary has had 3 myocardial infarctions, a TIA, a melanoma, and some permanent hearing loss due to pneumonia with ear infections.
In spite of all this, those who are lucky enough to spend time with Mary know she is always smiling, positive, and at the ready to help anyone in need with encouragement and tangible support. Her love for life and people is an amazement and inspiration to us all.
We are reaching out again as Mary needs your support. Over the past few years her doctors have recommended that she needs to reduce her stress and rest more. However, with her continued medical and life expenses, this has not been an option for her. We are asking now that you extend this lifeline and provide her the breathing room she so desperately needs to focus on her health and continue her job search. Your donation will help her address her current medical bills covering ongoing treatments and interventions, and basic living expenses.
Mary has spent years dedicated to her career, her community, and her family and friends all while navigating devastating illnesses. Please share Mary’s story with your friends and network. Every thought, donation, and prayer will help her as she continues her journey.
