On December 21st, 2020, my niece, Maria Paula's health suddenly changed drastically and completely.  She started having severe abdominal pain, followed by multiple seizures that sent her to the emergency room.  Initially, the doctor's did not know what was happening.  Ever since that day before Christmas, Maria Paula has been in Intensive Care!!  During this time, the doctors performed many tests to determine a diagnosis for Maria Paula.  There have been very, very painful days...full of anguish and uncertainty for her family and friends.  Her condition is severe.  What made it so, so much worse was not knowing what illness was afflicting her; however, today the doctors have a diagnosis.  The medical team has determined that she has Porphyria, a rare genetic disease that in her case attacks the central nervous system and has caused Maria Paula to totally lose mobility in her arms, hands, and legs!!   :(    
It's terrible....One day, Maria Paula, a beautiful, young woman,  21years old,  with plans for her future, now finds herself in this horrible situation.  We know that the road ahead is long, and in order to attempt to achieve her recovery, she must receive daily therapy sessions to regain mobility in her arms and legs.  The costs for treating her are high and despite having medical insurance, not all costs will be covered by it.  For those of you who love Maria Paula and who want to support her in helping her get the critical help that she needs, we humbly ask for your financial assistance.  Maria Paula needs to re-learn the same things that we do everyday without even thinking once about it, such as walking again and feeding herself.  With great courage and strength, Maria Paula tries every day to face this disease head-on.  Please help her in whatever capacity you can.  Thank you.

El 21 de diciembre de 2020, la salud de mi sobrina María Paula cambió repentinamente de manera drástica y completa. Comenzó a tener dolor abdominal severo, seguido de múltiples convulsiones que la enviaron a la sala de emergencias. Inicialmente, los médicos no sabían lo que estaba pasando. Desde ese día antes de Navidad, María Paula ha estado en cuidados intensivos !! Durante este tiempo, los médicos realizaron muchas pruebas para determinar un diagnóstico de María Paula. Han sido días muy, muy dolorosos ... llenos de angustia e incertidumbre para su familia y amigos. Su estado es grave. Lo que lo hacía tanto peor era no saber qué enfermedad la estaba afligiendo; sin embargo, hoy los médicos tienen un diagnóstico. El equipo médico ha determinado que tiene Porfiria, una rara enfermedad genética que en su caso ataca el sistema nervioso central y ha provocado que María Paula pierda totalmente la movilidad en brazos, manos y piernas !! :(
Es terrible ... Un día, María Paula, una hermosa joven de 21 años, con planes para su futuro, se encuentra ahora en esta horrible situación. Sabemos que el camino por recorrer es largo, y para intentar lograr su recuperación, debe recibir sesiones de terapia diaria para recuperar la movilidad de brazos y piernas. Los costos para tratarla son altos y a pesar de tener un seguro médico, no todos los costos serán cubiertos por este. Para aquellos de ustedes que aman a María Paula y quieren apoyarla para ayudarla a obtener la ayuda fundamental que necesita, les pedimos humildemente su asistencia financiera. María Paula necesita volver a aprender las mismas cosas que hacemos todos los días sin siquiera pensar en ello, como caminar de nuevo y alimentarse sola.
