Hi, my name is Lauren Martinez. I’m starting a fundraiser for my mom Margie Martinez. On July 1 while walking with her great nieces, she experienced a sharp pain in her right leg. She shook it off and continued on her walk. Over the evening the pain grew stronger and would not go away. By morning she decided to go to the ER and was told she had an arterial blood clot. Over the course of 2 days she required intervention and medication to break up the clots. Unfortunately, it did not work and then she required surgery for a thrombectomy (blood clot removal). The surgeon told us she did all she could and it was a matter of time to see if she would regain her pulses and keep her leg. She eventually regained pulses and we became optimistic that she was on her way to recovery and her leg would be saved. But after 3 weeks of waiting, dealing with horrible pain and eventually necrotic toes, she was re-admitted to the hospital for antibiotics and possible debridement. After assessing her situation the doctors made the decision that she would need a below the knee amputation. On 7/26 her leg had to be removed.
She will remain in the hospital for a couple of days and then she will need to go to in-house rehab to heal and learn basic functions of daily activity. Eventually she will need a prosthetic leg to help her walk and become independent again.
She has worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years and will not be able to work for quite awhile.
She is always the first in line to help those in need. She is always so caring and compassionate towards others.
The goal of the GoFundMe is to extend what financial help we can for Margie by raising sufficient funds to finance her medical expenses and bills.
This has been a extremely unexpected and difficult time for her. Your donations are greatly appreciated by the Martinez family.
Thank you.
