Kendra Vittorini, an Italian, and Robert Huffman, an American, met in Spain in 1996. They got married in the United States in 2006 and in 2008 had a beautiful daughter Alissa who just turned 14. Kendra and Robert had lived in Portugal, Spain and Italy, but Kendra had always wanted to live in America. In 2018 Kendra's dream finally came true. They moved to Sarasota - Life was Great!

A year later in 2019, at 44 years old, Kendra found a lump in her breast which started a year long fight with breast cancer. She fought that and WON, thank God! After she recovered from the breast cancer she decided with her 2nd chance at life that she would go back to doing what she loved when she had a photography business in Italy. Si L'amore Photography was born and Kendra was so happy working as a lifestyle photographer. In the two years since she started, she has delivered beautiful images and precious memories to hundreds of families to cherish and was just doing great!

 

Now for the worst part: In April, 2022, Kendra noticed large bruises on her legs. They didn’t hurt, but Kendra knew two people that had bruises like this and it turned out they had Leukemia. Kendra was terrified. She went to the doctor who said her blood levels were severely low and her fear escalated as the doctor said she needed a bone marrow biopsy to see if she had Leukemia. After 10 days she gets the dreaded call, "Yes, you have leukemia."

 

It turns out the reason she has leukemia is even more heartbreaking. The chemo that saved her from the breast cancer has caused a rare form of Leukemia which affects only . 2% of of those that receive it. Not 2%, .2%. Kendra had no choice but to receive the chemo from her breast cancer as it was Stage 2A and grade 3, meaning it was the most aggressive and most likely to return. It was a choice of life and death. What saved her life has now put her in serious jeopardy once more. The type of Leukemia Kendra has is called Acute Myeloid Leukemia, or AML. "AML starts in the bone marrow, the soft inner part of certain bones, where new blood cells are made, but most often it quickly moves into the blood, as well. It can sometimes spread to other parts of the body including the lymph nodes, liver, spleen and central nervous system, namely the brain and spinal cord (cancer.org)."

 

So here we are again, Kendra once again has the fight for her life in front of her. She just had a surgery to place another port so she can receive her chemo. She now faces a minimum five week hospital stay, chemo again, and God willing, a bone marrow transplant as they search for a match. After her initial chemo, if she is cancer free, she will endure more chemo to clean her blood even more to prepare for the bone marrow transplant. If she is not cancer free after the first round of chemo, they will do it again with another type of chemo. If she is not cancer free after chemo, she cannot have the bone marrow transplant which she needs 100% to be cured. The chemo will leave her with absolutely no immune system so any germ at all will be life threatening, that's why she has to stay in the hospital for so long as she will likely need blood transfusions (she's already had three blood transfusions and 2 platelet transfusions) and round the clock care to keep her safe. She is already on antibiotics and anti-virals to protect her from potential illness and she cannot go out in public for fear of exposure to germs. She will then have to go through a bone marrow transplant. After this she will be required to stay in a hotel or apartment near the hospital in Tampa, an hour away from home, for 100 days as her doctors will need to monitor her and she must stay close to the hospital in case of emergency. Robert will be able to stay with her in the hospital and after the transplant up in Tampa, but Alissa will be in school by then so it will be hard on them spending time apart. Family will help care for Alissa and Robert will spend time at home with her too and she will visit in Tampa as well, but it will be difficult for them nonetheless. To make matters even more difficult, Kendra's mother, who came from Italy last time she had cancer to help at home and with Alissa, may not be able to travel to the United States due to covid travel restrictions.

 

The financial burden of just the out of pocket for insurance alone is over $9,000.00, but thank God she is covered at Moffitt Cancer Hospital where they specialize in her type of cancer and it's among the top cancer centers in the United States. Household bills and travel expenses back and forth to Tampa for Robert will be difficult to meet as Kendra may not be able to work at all and Robert will not be able to work as much either. It will be an extreme financial hardship in addition to the physical, mental and emotional strain this will take on them as a family. If all goes well it will be approximately a six-month process and after that there will still be recovery time for Kendra to get strong and back to normal. Kendra does not know if she will be able to work during this time or not, and even if she can, how much. She hopes to try to work from her computer from the hospital editing images as she has arranged for other photographers to shoot her clients as she cannot be out in public. She does not know if this will be possible as they are explaining to her that she will be extremely weak and vulnerable while in the hospital after chemo and after the transplant assuming all goes perfectly. Getting new clients and handling other aspects of her business will be difficult as well from the hospital and also even when she’s home because she cannot be in public. So far, she is extremely blessed that most of her clients are keeping their shoots to support her in any way possible. She is very grateful to all her clients for their understanding.

Si sono sposati negli Stati Uniti nel 2006 e nel 2008 hanno avuto una bellissima figlia Alissa che ha appena compiuto 14 anni il mese scorso. Kendra e Robert avevano vissuto in Portogallo, Spagna e Italia, ma Kendra aveva sempre voluto vivere in America. Nel 2018 il sogno di Kendra si è finalmente avverato. Si sono trasferiti a Sarasota, in Florida, ed è stato meraviglioso vivere vicino al mare ed alla famiglia e fare nuove amicizie: la vita era fantastica!

 

Un anno dopo, nel 2019, a 44 anni, Kendra ha trovato un nodulo al seno che ha iniziato una lunga lotta di un anno contro il cancro al seno. Lo ha combattuto e ha vinto, grazie a Dio! I pensieri, le preghiere e le donazioni di amici e familiari hanno aiutato Kendra in modo significativo a superare e pagare ciò che non era coperto dall'assicurazione e ad aiutare lei e Robert finanziariamente a superare questa prova perché non è stata in grado di lavorare per molto tempo. Dopo essersi ripresa dal cancro al seno ha deciso con la sua seconda possibilità di vita che sarebbe tornata a fare ciò che amava quando aveva un'attività di fotografia in Italia. È nata Si L'amore Photography e Kendra era così felice di lavorare come fotografa di lifestyle producendo bellissime immagini con centinaia di famiglie. Nei due anni trascorsi da quando ha iniziato, ha consegnato ricordi preziosi a così tante persone da amare e stava semplicemente andando alla grande!

 

Ora per la parte peggiore: un giorno di aprile 2022, Kendra ha notato grandi lividi sulle gambe. Non facevano male, ma conosceva due persone che avevano avuto lividi del genere e si è scoperto che avevano la leucemia. Kendra era terrorizzata. Andò dal dottore e scoprì che i suoi livelli ematici erano gravemente bassi e la sua paura aumentò quando il dottore disse che aveva bisogno di una biopsia del midollo osseo per vedere se aveva la leucemia. Dopo 10 giorni riceve la temuta chiamata: "Sì, hai la leucemia". Si scopre che il motivo per cui ha la leucemia è ancora più straziante. La chemio che l'ha salvata dal cancro al seno ha causato una rara forma di leucemia che

colpisce solo lo 0,2% di coloro che la ricevono. Non 2%, 0,2%. Queste sono probabilità difficili da ingoiare per chiunque, ma particolarmente difficili dopo che Kendra ha già passato così tanto. Kendra non ha avuto altra scelta che ricevere la chemio dal suo cancro al seno poiché era di stadio 2A e di grado 3, il che significa che era il più aggressivo e con maggiori probabilità di tornare. È stata una scelta di vita o di morte. Ciò che le ha salvato la vita ora l'ha messa di nuovo in serio pericolo. Il tipo di leucemia che Kendra ha è chiamato leucemia mieloide acuta o AML. "L'AML inizia nel midollo osseo, la parte interna morbida di alcune ossa, dove vengono prodotti nuovi globuli, ma il più delle volte si sposta rapidamente anche nel sangue. A volte può diffondersi ad altre parti del corpo, compresi i linfonodi , fegato, milza e sistema nervoso centrale, vale a dire il cervello e il midollo spinale (cancer.org).”

 

Quindi eccoci di nuovo qui, Kendra ha ancora una volta la lotta per la sua vita di fronte a lei. Ha appena subito un intervento chirurgico per posizionare un altro port in modo da poter ricevere la chemio. Ora deve affrontare un ricovero in ospedale minimo di cinque settimane a partire dalla fine di questa settimana, di nuovo la chemio e, a Dio piacendo, un trapianto di midollo osseo mentre cercano uno per lei dopo che la chemio è finita e si spera che sarà libera dal cancro. Se è libera dal cancro, subirà più chemio per pulire ancora di più il suo sangue per prepararsi al trapianto di midollo osseo. Se non è libera dal cancro dopo il primo ciclo di chemio, lo faranno di nuovo con un altro tipo di chemio. Se non è libera dal cancro dopo la chemio, non può avere il trapianto di midollo osseo di cui ha bisogno per essere curata. Per alcune leucemie non è necessario un trapianto di midollo osseo per essere curate, ma nel caso di Kendra è assolutamente certo che se non si fa trapianto il cancro tornerà al 100%. La chemio la lascerà assolutamente priva di sistema immunitario, quindi qualsiasi germe sarà pericoloso per la vita, ecco perché deve rimanere in ospedale per tutto il tempo che probabilmente avrà bisogno di trasfusioni di sangue (ne ha già avuto due già avuto tre trasfusioni di sangue e 2 trasfusioni di piastrine) e assistenza ore su 24 per tenerla al sicuro. Sta già assumendo antibiotici e antivirali per proteggerla da potenziali malattie e non può uscire in pubblico per paura dell'esposizione ai germi. Dovrà quindi sottoporsi a un trapianto di midollo osseo. Dopodiché dovrà rimanere in un hotel o appartamento vicino all'ospedale di Tampa, a un'ora da casa, per 100 giorni poiché i suoi medici dovranno monitorarla e lei dovrà rimanere vicino all'ospedale in caso di emergenza. Robert potrà stare con lei in ospedale e dopo il trapianto a Tampa, ma Alissa sarà a scuola per allora, quindi sarà difficile per loro passare del tempo separati. La famiglia aiuterà a prendersi cura di Alissa e anche Robert trascorrerà del tempo a casa con lei e anche lei si recherà in visita a Tampa, ma sarà comunque difficile per loro. A rendere le cose ancora più difficili, la madre di Kendra, venuta dall'Italia l'ultima volta che ha avuto il cancro per aiutare a casa e con Alissa potrebbe non essere in grado di recarsi negli Stati Uniti a causa delle restrizioni di viaggio covid.

 

Kendra ha qui famiglia che la aiuterà, ma l'onere finanziario anche per chi ha solo le spese di assicurazione è di più di $ 9.000,00. È molto alto, ma grazie a Dio è coperta al Moffitt Cancer Hospital, dove sono specializzati nel suo tipo di cancro ed è tra i migliori centri oncologici negli Stati Uniti. Le bollette della famiglia e le spese di viaggio avanti ed indietro a Tampa per Robert saranno difficili da soddisfare poiché Kendra potrebbe non essere in grado di lavorare affatto e nemmeno Robert sarà in grado di lavorare tanto. Sarà un'estrema difficoltà finanziaria oltre alla tensione fisica, mentale ed emotiva che questo li porterà come una famiglia. Se tutto va bene, ci vorranno circa sei mesi e dopo ci sarà ancora il tempo di recupero per Kendra per diventare forte e tornare alla normalità, a Dio piacendo. Kendra non sa se sarà in grado di lavorare durante questo periodo o meno, e anche se può, quanto. Spera di provare a lavorare dal suo computer dall'ospedale per modificare le immagini poiché ha organizzato per altri fotografi di fotografare i suoi clienti poiché non può essere in pubblico. Non sa se ciò sarà possibile poiché le stanno spiegando che sarà estremamente debole e vulnerabile mentre sarà in ospedale dopo la chemio e dopo il trapianto, supponendo che tutto vada alla perfezione. Ottenere nuovi clienti e gestire altri aspetti della sua attività sarà difficile anche dall'ospedale ed anche quando è a casa perché non può essere in pubblico. Finora, è estremamente fortunata che la maggior parte dei suoi clienti stia mantenendo i propri scatti per supportarla in ogni modo possibile. È molto grata a tutti i suoi clienti per la loro comprensione.

 

Kendra ha bisogno del nostro aiuto. Odia chiederlo, ma apprezza il supporto che tutti voi le avete dato la prima volta che ha avuto il cancro e spera che attraverso la condivisione di questa raccolta fondi, donando ciò che potete e inviando le sue preghiere, il suo amore e i suoi messaggi vinca ancora una volta come SOPRAVVISSUTA che lei è. Kendra è fortissima, ma è molto spaventata poiché i pensieri di aver perso suo padre a causa del cancro quando aveva solo 20 anni le pesano pesantemente mentre guarda la sua giovane figlia. Non importa quanto sia positiva, la paura è ancora lì.
