Let’s Help Jessica Regain her Independence
Donation protected
Dear family, friends, and kindhearted folks,
In March 2025, my girlfriend Jessica Irwin had multiple heart attacks, two strokes & needed to have her leg amputated above the knee unexpectedly in the Foothills hospital due to a complex blood condition called acute compartment syndrome. With her severe blood clots and swelling, her leg would have to be amputated in order to save her life. She was barely able to keep her other leg and almost lost that one as well but the fasciotomy procedure was successful.
As you can imagine, this has been life altering. This sudden and devastating change has turned her world upside down and she now faces the urgent reality that her old home - a 4 level townhouse with lots of stairs - needs to be adapted to suit her new reality, and have to face the reality of her having to move in this crazy real-estate market. This will ensure that she can live comfortably, independently and in a safe way. Jessica has a long road to recovery ahead as she learns how to physically adapt and overcome the loss of a vital limb, as well as addressing the mental toll that the last few months has taken on her. The home in which she has lived in for 15 years is now filled with barriers, and simple tasks such as getting up a flight of stairs will be next to impossible for her.
Modifications are now required to improve her quality of life, such as: wider doorways and hallways, ramps, upgraded bathrooms that are wheelchair accessible, lowered kitchen space, various other fittings for support, possibly a stair lift, and many other adaptations that are crucial. This unexpected amputation has also taken away the possibility of work and future earnings for her.
Anyone who knows Jessica knows that she is extremely kind hearted and is generous to a fault. We now hope, through the generosity of other kind-hearted people, that we can fundraise enough to help adapt her to her current and future homes and regain some of her independence. She is determined to build herself up and has already come so far through sheer determination. Jessica will need specialized personal training as well as intensive rehabilitation into the future to reach her goal of being independent once again. Following rehabilitation we hope that she will be able to get a prosthetic leg or two, an electric wheelchair and a commode chair/shower chair which requires her to be fit and in full health.
Any donations made will go directly to Jessica for improving her quality of life, household adaptations and safeguards for independent living. We hugely appreciate all donations and want to thank everyone for the incredible support received so far as we navigate this difficult road. Thank you.
