Let’s help Jay Clancey and Cognition!!

For many years now Jay and Cognition Brewing Company have faced disputes and subsequent legal battles with the owner of the building (The Mather Inn) where the brewery has been located in Ishpeming. In May of 2021 power was shut-off to the entire building and a Cognition employee was allegedly assaulted while trying to supply power via generator to the brewery. Shortly after, the brewery was forced to closed.

While all of this is dragging on in court, Jay has been moving forward. He has recently reached an agreement to open in the Grace Episcopal Church next door as well as continuing work at their second location in Marquette on Third Street. With both projects underway and 6 months of no access to brewing supplies and equipment has caused a complete loss of income.

Without the ability to brew and serve beer, Cognition employees have found temporary work elsewhere, and the Ishpeming community goes without their beloved brew house. We hold out hope that legal decisions will be made soon, that Jay and his crew will have access to their property in the Mather, and Cognition will move forward.

This Go Fund Me campaign will help Jay with his ongoing legal expenses, costs associated with recovering and restoring brewing operations and any other costs associated with the brewery.
