David Polek suffered a life altering spinal cord injury from a serious accident on Friday November 12. Following the accident, Dave was transported to ECMC trauma center where he underwent an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) to relieve pressure on his spinal cord. Dave will need to undergo several more surgeries to remove broken bones as well as stabilize his condition. While he continues to maintain his positive attitude - that we all know and love - he is determined to make a full recovery to ultimately get back to work and of course his favorite passions – his family, his friends, his golf game, and air guitaring.
For those that have the privilege of knowing Dave would say he is always a charismatic and energetic person who never backs down from a challenge and can always be counted on. Dave shows up – no matter what. Our goal of this fundraiser is to provide much needed financial support to allow Dave to focus all of his time and energy on his road to recovery. These first few weeks are crucial for Dave’s recovery process from this devastating injury. Moving forward, it is anticipated that he will need financial support to cover a multitude of inpatient & outpatient medical bills and at home support.
At just 27 years old, and unable to work and without medical insurance, this dear young man’s medical journey and rehabilitation is just beginning. He needs our help on this journey, it's our turn to show up for him.
We thank you for any and all help you can give to help in this unfortunate situation.
And just like Tom Petty said, Dave's not backing down.
