Let's help Gary during his recovery!

Hello there! If you are here on this go fund me page then in some way, big or small you have been lucky enough to have met my father in law Gary Janiszewski. As all of you know this man has the biggest heart of gold, and is always the one to give you the shirt off his back and is always the first one to jump in and help in any way he possibly can.

As some of you know, and many do not know, over the last year Gary has been having some health problems. A few months ago he had finally went into the doctors and had some tests and procedures done that had discovered he had a tumor in the lower part of his colon and a polyp in upper part of his colon that both came back cancerous. Thankfully his doctors moved quickly and were very hopeful that having surgery to remove both the polyp and the tumor was going to be successful in taking care of the cancer. August 11, 2021 he had his surgery and during his surgery the surgeon had said that everything went very, very well and his prognosis was looking great! He spent a few days in the Manistee Hospital had a few set backs but things were still looking good.

Gary had went home for a few days and things seemed as if they were going as planned. Well on Sunday we had stopped by for a few to let him and Donna visit with the kids. We had left for barely 2 hrs and by the time we came back Gary's condition was completly different! He was very flush, sweating, feet/legs swollen and barely making complete sentences. Shawn and I made the decision to call his sister Beth right away as she is a nurse and get her advice on what to do. We all instantly made the decision that he needed to get to a hospital ASAP! So Shawn and I got him in the truck and Shawn rushed him down to the Ludington Hospital. As soon as I got there we were thankfully allowed back into the room with him and were informed that had we not made the decision to bring him in when we did the whole situation would be very very different. Shawn, Adam , and I all sat at the hospital on edge waiting to hear more on what was going on. Monday early morning Gary was prepped and ready for emergency surgery, because in the lower part of his colon where the surgeon had reconstructed where the tumor was located, it had been torn and was causing internal bleeding and an infection. The surgeon reassured us that although this isn't super common, it is something that they see in some patients around the 4-7 day mark post surgery. The surgeon was confident that she was going to be able to fix everything and get him back on the right track. With all the prayers, support and an amazing surgery team they were able to get the infection and bleeding under control and fix him up just as planned! After surgery he was placed in ICU and is still currently there to make sure everything keeps going down the right path and starts working as it should. Prayers are still needed and we are very hopeful that with the care he is getting that things will continue on the right path and he will be on the road to recovery with little to no set backs!

When he is released from the hospital and they feel as though it is safe for him to come home, we all had made the decision that he will be staying at our house (Shawn and Emily's). That way he can have 24/7 care and supervision while he is home recovering. Since this is going to take his body time and as much time as he needs with no rushing anything to get back to the happy, healthy, outgoing Gary we all know and love. He will obviously be out of work for some time. His income pays for all their household bills and with him not being able to work we as his family are doing all that we can to make his recovery as stress free as possible! We do not want him to be stressed out or worried about the house bills or any medical bills that will be coming in. So what we are asking form you all big or small anything will help, is to help us help Gary in this hard and stressful time to take a load off his and Donna's shoulders and pitch in with whatever you can! Like I said in the beginning Gary is always the first to drop what he is doing and help wherever and however he is needed.Let's show him the same love and care he's shown all of us! If you cannot donate we totally understand! Even things as simple as a card, a prayer, good vibes whatever you can do I know he will appreciate with all his heart!

Thank you all for being such good people to him and we all know it takes a village to get through life. I am very confident that Gary has surrounded himself with the most amazing village a guy could ask for!
