Let's help Fr. Michael Doder's family
Donation protected
Fr. Michael Doder, has served the Serbian Orthodox community in the Greater Toronto Area for four decades. He is my colleague, brother in Christ, and friend. Anyone that is involved in church life knows that the biggest hit for a successful parish priest's mission is on his immediate family. This is a chance for us to repay a little bit of the love which the Doder family has for our Church, by supporting them in a time of need.
Fr. Michael is currently hospitalized with a nasty case of pneumonia due to the COVID19 virus. His wife Zorka tragically passed away this morning as a result of complications arising from the virus. Zorka was a retired nurse, acting as a front line worker, nursing her husband.
Most people know that Orthodox clergy live a humble life. Certainly dedicated priests like Fr. Michael do not chase glory or the riches of this world, but rather put their hope and treasures in the mercy of God. Priests do not have pension plans and in most cases depend on the earnings of their wife. All of this has been turned upside down today in the Doder family.
For every good memory you have of Fr. Michael, know that there was a loving wife, and children, who lacked time with their husband and father, to make sure many had a loving priest. For every joke, hospital visit, hug, and comforting word from Fr. Michael know that there was somebody who knew their dad did not have a full-time job, but rather a non-stop round-the-clock calling.
With the express agreement of Fr. Michael's son Timothy, I am organizing this page to help them with the costs of the funeral of protinica Zorka, the erection of a headstone at the Holy Transfiguration Serbian Orthodox Cemetery in Campbellville, and living expenses for Fr. Michael and his dependant daughter, for the next few months. All funds will be given to Timothy, and Zach directly so that they can get through this challenging milestone in their life. Timothy has been added as the beneficiary of this fundraiser.
It is the season of giving. May God reward all of your contributions with blessings and health for you, and your loved ones!
In Christ, our only Lord and Saviour,
Fr. Jovan Marjanac
