Let's help eradicate cancer from Eddie Phillipo!!

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Brent. I have been friends with Eddie Phillipo for almost 25 years. I first met Eddie when he started as a security officer at London Health Sciences Centre. Eddie was a committed member of the team. He was always there when needed. He kept his co-workers and patients safe.

In October 2006 Eddie joined the OPP Auxiliary in Middlesex County. As an Auxiliary member he split his time between Middlesex County and Elgin County. He made many friends and had officers calling him up to ride along with them. In January 2009 the OPP hired Eddie as a Constable in Elgin County. Eddie has continued to have our backs and be a valued friend and co-worker.

In the fall of 2023 Eddie had stomach pain when rolling over in bed at night. His family doctor scheduled him for a CT scan and the results suggested cancer. Eddie had a biopsy which revealed a rare type of cancer called PMP (Pseudomyxoma Peritonei), which is a complex condition. From January 2024 until the end of July 2024 Eddie did chemotherapy xelox, followed by oral capecitabine. This treatment seemed to be working at first, but stopped being effective. The cancer grew. In August 2024 they switched Eddie to folfirinox.

Eddie's oncologist has twice recommended him for HPIC surgery, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, which could save his life, but they have denied him on both occasions. Prior to HPIC surgery Eddie may also require laparoscopic surgery. Eddie and Amy have been in contact with Dr. Armando Sadi at the Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Dr. Sadi is a pioneer in HIPEC surgery and an expert in this type of cancer. Eddie's oncologist has only seen two cases of this type of cancer. The cost of the surgery will cost Eddie and Amy approximately $205,000 Cdn. This doesn't include travel expenses. It is anticipated that Eddie will remain in the hospital for 7 to 20 days and after he's discharged from the hospital, he'll need to remain in Baltimore to ensure there are no complications.

This HIPEC surgery is the only chance Eddie has to be cancer free. The treatment Eddie has received to date has caused neuropathy in his hands and feet. As a result of the neuropathy, he has not been able to do what he loves; cycling, drawing and art. I am trying to raise funds to assist Eddie and his wife Amy so that they can concentrate on Eddie getting better by helping to relieve some of the mental and financial stress of it all. He is travelling to Baltimore on 2nd October, and then hopefully the surgery at the end of October 2024. Eddie has always had our backs, now I want to have his. If you're able to, please donate. Every little bit helps. THANK YOU!!!
