Hi everyone,
We are reaching out for support to help our friends Nick & Jill Anema purchase a stroller for their son Duncan.
Duncan has grown so much and is now 8 years old!
Any support would be extremely appreciated! Let's help this young boy enjoy time outside for many years to come.
From Nick & Jill:
He was born with a rare condition called Cri du Chat Syndrome. Due to his syndrome, one of his biggest challenges in his life is mobility. Now don't worry, considering this challenge and many more that he faces daily, he's the happiest boy we know. His mobility consists of scooting on his knees, pulling to stand and walking with assistance by holding objects or cruising in his walker device - he's a quick mover, getting in to everything and keeping us busy, causing trouble as a little boy should, all with a cheeky little grin.
Inside our home, his means of mobility works with ease for him. But as soon as we head outside to play, his mobility becomes limited due to his challenge of walking independently. Our property has lots of acres which includes a large backyard and waking trails. To even head out into the backyard, we require some form of wheels to assist us as he is getting too heavy to carry. In the past we have used a wagon to which he grew out of, and now recently he is growing out of the largest jogging stroller we have been able to source. Now, all our choices for a new stroller for his size is labeled as a "Special Needs Stroller" and as we've sadly learned on our journey with Duncan, anything labeled special or medical needs means the price is astronomically high and unaffordable.
A new stroller will last him years, even likely till his late teen and early adolescent years. It will allow us to enjoy our property and walking trails for many years to come. Its design allows to fold and stow in our SUV and will allow us to continue to enjoy all the beautiful trails of Norfolk County. These are all forms of terrain to which his wheelchair is not suitable for.
Thank you!
