My name is Shawna Simpson, and my mom has been an amazing mother to both my brother and i, all my life. She has taught me so much strength and how to stay strong through difficult situations. She has raised two amazing and successful kids and she is one of the most strongest women I know.
In the Summer of 2020 Donna ended up with a severe case of Shingles. During this time she was on bed rest for 3.5 Months. I would drive back and forth from Victoria and check on her to make sure she was okay - make sure she was eating right, take her to whatever important appointments needed attending to, and check in on her business. However, this was also a very unfortunate time due to the fact that we were also in the middle of a pandemic. When the pandemic hit, it closed down her shop for a few months during the mandatory shutdown/lockdown. Her salon was closed down for the first few months of the lockdown from March to May. When she opened the salon back up she started to notice signs from her shingles again and as well as some thryoid issues. As time went on she realized she needed to speak to her doctors about the pain she was undergoing from the shingles. Because of this doctors decided to look into some testing.
After some time they realized that she would need to remove her thyroid due to her body creating high calcium and other side effects. While still going through testing for other possibilities of why this was happening to her, this is when they noticed mom had a nodule in her lung. When we went to the hospital, the doctors explained to her that they found three nodules in her left lung and few other points of interests......whatever the hell that means. After months of CT scans, pet scans, xrays, bronchoscopy, x2 biopsies; she was officially diagnosed with lung cancer on November.5th.2020.
At this point it really doesn't matter how many times you say it, or hear it, it really doesn't feel real at all. Already a survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma I cant imagine the fear she feels to face this horror again. To Donna, this is very real and it's definitely getting more real by the day. What I am aspiring to do now for her, is share her story in hopes of raising funds to help her through this awful bump in the road. All i want my mom to focus on now is her health and fighting. No one should have to think about money & finances while having to face their reality. I will share as much as i can with you from my perspective but just understand by no means am I a writer. So, I will do my very best that I can to share everything that is going on and keep you updated as we go through this process together. I would like to raise $5,000.00 to help relieve some of the stress of paying medical bills, travel, medical expenses, care giver, and possible meals on wheels. The goal is $5,000.00 but most likely will need to increase within time but for now we are just focusing on what we need. Any donation, wheather its big or small, will go a long way! If you are unable to donate at this time! PLEASE SHARE! Share on social media, tell a friend/ co-worker, or wherever you can, anything! Please help my mom along this journey. She is a fighter thats for sure! send all your prayers and positive vibes her way xoxoxox
