Let's Help David Recover From Assault

I'm raising funds for my cousin David Hutson, who was assaulted on the evening of Good Friday (April 18) in Portland, Oregon. He went out to a local bar to enjoy some end-of-week relaxation with his brother and a group of friends. Unexpectedly, one of his friends was shoved to the ground by a man they didn't know. David rushed over to help his friend. The assailant was with a group, and others joined in the attack. David was punched in the head, knocked unconscious, kicked repeatedly, and robbed.

Neither of his part-time jobs offers health insurance, so at the time of this writing, he has not yet sought medical care. He will be out of work for an unknown period of time and likely will require medical attention. Without insurance, this could be very costly.

We are asking for funds to help offset his lost income and cover medical costs. Should we raise funds in excess of his needs, the extra funds will be used for the fight for democracy, a cause which matters deeply to David, after his many years of teaching Government and History.
