Let’s help Nina’s family with expenses!

For those that don't know Nina's story, she had a brain tumor when she was 5. She went thru an emergent 8 hour brain surgery to remove it & we had a very rough & long recovery. It was traumatic for all of us. They got the whole tumor at the time but it has a high recurrence rate so we have to travel back to Kansas City every year for MRI's.

Fast forward to age 11, her MRI in May showed that it has come back It is still small & slow growing & she's not showing many symptoms. Her neurosurgeon at Children's Mercy says another surgery isn't recommended due to tumor location & all the delicate brain structures around it. It would massively affect her quality of life. He referred us to KU Med for proton radiation. Since then, we've had our consult appt & then another trip up there yesterday for another MRI & CT simulation.

We are looking at 6 weeks of DAILY mon-fri treatments for total of 30 along with weekly MRI's during that time.......all of this will take place in KC (3 hours from home). It is the only place in the state that offers proton, there are only approx 42 locations across the country. We tentatively will begin treatments 7/29 & hope to be done by 9/9. Proton comes with lesser risks than traditional radiation but there are still risks that have my mama heart very worried. Please pray for her. Pray that the radiation kills this tumor for good & that it only targets her tumor & nothing else nearby. For her to get thru this like the warrior she is. For NO side effects (short term & long term).
