Hi All,
My name is Tiffany Thomas and I am the best friend of Courtney. Courtney and I have been friends for 16 years. This is the very last thing she would want to do but it’s the only way I can help my friend from so many miles away.
Colton, the son of Kameron and Courtney who currently is 9 months has been having seizures since birth. He recently after many countless trips to the hospital for not knowing why he continuously has seizures became paralyzed. After getting results from a genetic test he was diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) a rare neurological disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of temporary paralysis and stroke like symptoms, often affecting one side of the body (hemiplegia) in some cases both sides of the body. This disorder is what’s causing Colton’s seizures. There is no cure for AHC. Approximately 1 in 1 million people have AHC making Colton the 157th person in the world and the 19th person in the US. As of now only 3 hospitals in the US can treat this disorder, and medication for Colton has to come from Canada.
As you can imagine this has caused a tremendous strain on Colton’s family not only emotionally due to the unknown but also financially. Courtney lost her job due to attendance as a result of constantly taking Colton back and forth to the hospital. While missing work Kameron has to bare all of their financial responsibilities.
My hopes for this go fund me is to be able to help the family with medical expenses, and money for travel to the closest hospital that can help Colton which is in North Carolina 11 hours away from where they live.
This is definitely something that we would not normally do but at this point, what would it hurt. Any little bit will help, the family will be extremely grateful!
