Let’s Help Bring Lee Young Home
A Note from Jerry Brown
Friends, classmates and teammates, please join us in helping to bring a great friend of ours home. Many of us have known Lee Young since elementary school. Others know him from the community or were either classmates or teammates on the DW Daniel High School Football Team in 1970 – 1972. Lee was always tough on the football field but generous and kind to everyone off the field.
Lee spent his life as a professional bricklayer in the DC area until he was forced to retire in 2017 due to an unfortunate accident. While helping to build a retaining wall, Lee slipped and fell off the scaffold, causing severe damage to his chest. While being treated for the accident, Lee was informed that he also had a heart problem and Type 2 Diabetes and would have to consider retirement.
Lee’s health and life insurance were paid for through his Union. In January of 2017, Lee’s retirement year, his Union merged health and life insurance into a single plan. Lee joined Medicare and cancelled his health insurance in July of 2017, not realizing that he was also cancelling his death benefit (life insurance). He only learned of this recently, and was informed by his Union that too much time had passed for them to go back and correct the mistake.
Lee’s health has deteriorated, and Hospice care began last month. Lee’s last wish is to be returned home to Clemson and buried in a special section of the cemetery at his family church. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help cover most of the expenses. Lee and his family are aware of our efforts and greatly appreciate any help we can provide.
