Lets Help Bobby See Better Days
Donation protected
I never thought this could happen, but it’s happening. A man I love with all my heart is in a bad place and needs our help.
If you have ever met Bobby McDonald, or Robert as some call him, you know what a lovely soul he is. He is my brother, an uncle to my children, and one of those sweet people we all love to encounter… who makes us feel so good about who we are.
Bobby has an amazing story! As Oscar Wilde once said, “Every Saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” He’s no Saint, but he is God’s child and he needs some help.
Many who know him, know what an extraordinary journey (that’s another way to say wild ride!) his life has been. Like so many people we know, Bobby has struggled with addiction and the consequences of a handful of bad decisions. And, while he may have raised a few eyebrows in those early years, he managed to steer his life to a better place—working as a superintendent at a golf course and doing odd jobs all these past years to make ends meet. And he has done an amazing job becoming the sweet person who never meets a stranger and who is genuinely happy and content with his lot in life. But today, after years of trying his level best to be the best Bobby he can be, he is in a tight spot.
He is going blind.
He is unable to work.
Then add to that this COVID mess, and its just a double triple whammy.
After caring for our Mother for several years, he most recently has been working for a Family member to earn money remodeling a building—but that has all come to a halt since he can’t see to do the work, much less drive there! He is homebound. If ever he has needed a chance and help from friends, now is that time.
He is in need of a few dollars to get caught up on rent and just get by until he can get some surgery for his eyes. We do not know what his surgery will cost (I will update this page with more information as it becomes available) but he needs some assistance with that as well. He is not immediately eligible for public assistance insurance, and we are told that disability will take up to two years to obtain—so, as I said, he’s in a tight spot and he needs a chance to survive with dignity and love.
I've created this go fund me page to help Bobby have that chance. If you know Bobby and can help in any way, please make a donation. I will be managing the money for him and walking this path by his side. If you have not been fortunate enough to meet this sweet and positive man but are compelled to help, thank you. It starts small. A simple act of kindness, but it can ripple out and create an ocean of love in his life and in this world.
It's so rare that we get an opportunity to affect such important change on one’s life. I think back to how many people poured into my life with their generosity, time, money, encouragement, needs, and struggles, and it brings me to tears. The impact that those people had on my life can never be measured. I am so grateful for the lives we share with one another, so grateful for each and every one of God's children. I cannot thank you enough for caring about Bobby. While he suffers silently and is hesitant to ask folks for help, he needs this chance, and together we can make it possible.
So please consider helping Bobby out. I know it’s a big ask and I can assure you he is humbled that you would even consider.
Please don't think that any amount of money is too small. Honestly, any amount is appreciated and plenty. I believe there are enough people who care about folks like Bobby and his cause that we will pass the goal easily so that he can feel safe in his home and get the healthcare he needs so that, when this struggle is all over, he can look you in the eye and thank you for your generosity.
Thank you again for being willing to touch a life, to make a difference, to give Bobby a chance to get his eyesight back.
