Let's help Blessing get a prosthetic leg

Donation protected

Blessing is from Akwa Ibom State in the South Eastern region of Nigeria. She was born on 3rd September 2000 Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State to Mr. & Mrs. Effiok Edet. She spent her early years in Calabar, and moved to Lagos with her mother in 2015, shortly after her father died in 2013, following a brief illness.

Blessing was not born disabled, but the details of her accident have never been clear to her. Her mother says that one day she went out with her dad as a toddler, and returned home crippled. Her father never gave them full details, but the lack of funds and proper medical help resulted in the loss of the whole of her right leg. Unfortunately, her father died in 2013, and she has been unable to find out the full details of the accident.
Growing up, Blessing initially used to experience sharp pains in the leg which were usually prolonged and agonising. Over the years, that has stopped, and she experiences no more physical pains or discomfort. She remembers lacking self confidence in those early years in school, and unable to participate in numerous activities with her peer group.

Blessing has attended a consultation with IfeanHealth, a prosthetics specialist clinic in Lagos. They have advised the treatment for Blessing is Modular Transfemoral Prosthesis. This is a Fitting with an Above Knee (AK) prosthesis which will cost 2,212,645 NGN (£3160). We have also considered the logistics of Blessing's procedure: logistics, accommodation while they are in Enugu for the procedure and living costs, for which we aim to raise an additional 500,000 NGN (£715).
Blessing has however been able to overcome these early years challenges and hopes to move on with her life.
Her ambition was to attend university and become an accountant, possibly running an international organisation. Because of her family situation, funding her education has become impossible. She says her first priority at the moment is to secure a prosthetic leg, to build her self-confidence, and enable her be more competitive.

Blessing was unable to secure a good job, and eventually joined a multi-level marketing organisation that currently keeps her busy.

We want to raise funds to get Blessing the prosthetic leg she wants, and any extra funds will be channelled towards equipping her with the education and right tools to prepare her for the future. We will also support Blessing in ensuring the funds are managed appropriately.

Thank you and God Bless.
