Let's Help Bhaju's Publication Ministry

Dear friends, your comments in Facebook have moved me to set up a fundraiser to help Bhaju continue his ministry for Jesus.

I spent this morning walking around Dhulikhel with Bhaju learning more about Nepal, its history, and its culture. We also talked with several Nepali people in the streets. They were without exception very friendly and kind with us. I enjoyed it very much. The most amazing thing, however, was to spend the morning with Bhaju and learn about his personal story and his work and passion for Jesus. It was a transformative experience. After I returned to my room I knelt and recommitted my life to God.

Bhaju met Jesus when he was a teenager and converted through the efforts of Connie Gane’s grandmother. He is the first local Nepali to convert to Adventism and he devoted his life to work for Jesus. He was disinherited for accepting Jesus, but he did not care. Years later, his father gave him the portion of land he had reserved for himself and Bhaju devoted it to God and converted it into an Adventist center for preaching the gospel and uses one room in it to live. He calls the place “Adventist Point.” He worked more than 30 years for an American School in Nepal as a librarian. When he retired, one of the leaders of the school said to him, “Bhaju, in my next life I want to be you.” The money Bhaju received for his retirement he also devoted it for spreading the gospel. I was amazed by the amount of books he has translated and published with his own money and the financial support he receives from friends who know about his work. (Connie and Roy Gane have supported him for many years.)

I asked Bhaju whether he receives help in translating. He told me that translating is a delicate matter: “You need to know the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White well, but also you need to know the Nepalese people very well so that you can translate in a manner they understand, in a language that is not too complicated, but that is accessible to everyone.” He has shared his books with non-Christian Nepali professors who have appreciated the quality of the material he translates.

I felt moved to set up this fundraiser to support Bhaju because I think he needs our support. What he is doing is going to remain a blessing for Nepali people long after he dies. He also has other dreams for his work for Jesus that need our support. I am going to preach the last sermon of the conference this Sabbath at noon. I would like to look Bhaju in the eyes and tell him with concrete, tangible evidence that there are many persons around the world that love what he is doing with sacrifice and that we would like to become his partners with our prayers and with our offering. Please give what you can. All kinds of donations, small or big, will mean so much for him, and for Jesus, and for many people we don’t know about that will be blessed by his ministry.

Solo tiene una habitación en el edificio donde vive. Él llama al lugar “Punto Adventista”. Trabajó más de 30 años para una escuela estadounidense en Nepal como bibliotecario. Cuando se jubiló, uno de los líderes de la escuela le dijo: “Bhaju, en mi próxima vida quiero ser tú”. El dinero que Bhaju recibió por su jubilación también lo dedicó a difundir el evangelio. Me asombró la cantidad de libros que ha traducido y publicado con su propio dinero y con el apoyo económico que recibe de amigos que saben de su obra. Le pregunté a Bhaju si recibe ayuda para traducir. Me dijo que traducir es un asunto delicado: “Necesitas conocer bien la Biblia y los escritos de Elena de White, pero también debes conocer muy bien a la gente de Nepal para que puedas traducir de una manera que ellos entiendan, en un lenguaje que no sea demasiado complicado, pero que sea accesible para todos”. Ha compartido sus libros con profesores nepaleses no cristianos que han apreciado la calidad del material que traduce.

Me sentí impulsado a organizar esta recaudación de fondos para apoyar a Bhaju porque creo que necesita nuestro apoyo. Lo que está haciendo seguirá siendo una bendición para el pueblo nepalí mucho después de su muerte. Él también tiene otros sueños para su trabajo por Jesús que necesitan nuestro apoyo. Voy a predicar el último sermón de la conferencia este sábado al mediodía. Me gustaría mirar a Bhaju a los ojos y decirle con evidencia concreta y tangible que hay muchas personas alrededor del mundo que aman lo que él está haciendo con sacrificio y que nos gustaría convertirnos en sus socios con nuestras oraciones y con nuestra ofrenda.
