Let's Help Betty Get Radioactive Iodine Treatment

Earlier this year, a beautiful senior tortie girl was surrendered to our clinic. Betty was in rough shape—she was very skinny, had a severely matted hair coat, and had large sores on her lips and in her mouth. She was in need of love, stability, and medical care. From the moment she arrived, we knew she deserved a second chance!

Dr. Rachel and the team at Duncan Cat Clinic have been looking after Betty, giving her a safe place to rest and recover. She had a hair-cut and is being treated for her hyperthyroidism with a drug called methimazole. We have treated the lesions on her lip with a medication that suppresses her immune system, a special hypoallergenic diet, as well as flea/tick prevention & deworming. Betty's personality has started to shine through. She is quite the social butterfly and loves to greet clients at the front desk! Dr. Rachel takes her home on the weekends and has leash-trained her, so she can enjoy the fresh air and stimulation of the great outdoors without the dangers of free-roaming. She still needs a dental COHAT (dental Cleaning, Oral Health Assessment, and Treatment), which we will do. Because she hates her medications so much (she holds a grudge!), we are hoping to fundraise enough money for Betty so we can permanently cure her hyperthyroidism. We will need to send her to North West Nuclear Medicine for Animals in Vancouver for radioactive iodine treatment. This is an expensive treatment. The kind doctors at NWNM for Animals have kindly agreed to give us a 50% discount, but we still need to cover the remaining $1600 for the treatment and enough to cover her transportation there and back. This treatment comes at a significant cost, and as a small, independent clinic, it’s not something we can take on alone. Duncan Cat Clinic will cover the cost of whatever else is needed.

Betty has had a rough life and deserves a comfortable retirement. We are reaching out to our community, the cat lovers, the clinic supporters, and those who believe every animal deserves a second chance. Betty has come so far, and we truly believe she deserves the opportunity to live a long, comfortable life and to eventually find a forever home that will continue giving her the love and medical care she deserves.

Every cent raised will go directly toward Betty’s treatment, medications, travel, and recovery. Even if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing her story can help us reach someone who can.

From all of us, and especially from Betty, thank you for helping us give her the life she deserves.
