Let's Help Ashley! Our Realtor Fighting Cancer

Donation protected
Ashley Messner, Realtor and single mom of 2 is battling an aggressive cancer and is in chemo every 2 weeks until it stops working. As a community leader and our Realtor Board President she has been always one to fight for what's right, and taking care of others. She always puts others before herself - and this time she needs the community to step up and fight for her.

In January 2020, after what had been months of struggling with extreme hip pain, Ashley was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. The tumor was the cause of the hip pain. In 2020 alone, Ashley had 4 major surgeries to remove and *hopefully* cure the cancer. Those included Lung, Colon, and Liver surgery and aggressive chemotherapy throughout.

During one of the best years in Real Estate, Ashley cheered from the sidelines, all while attending zoom meetings and representing the Midcoast Board of Realtors as board president. All while she fought this extremely aggressive cancer.

In December, Ashley had her last scheduled surgery to remove a portion of her lung. It was a longer than expected recovery, but it was signifying the end of a very tough year for everyone as well as Ashley's battle.

Things didn’t go as planned and in early/mid 2021 we were told that her cancer is back and angry. Ashley now has tumors metastasized in her liver, both lungs, stomach lining, intestine and bowel.

In the midst of this harsh blow, Ashley was given emergency full custody of her 2 children. The cherry on top was that amidst a breakup, she had to learn to mow the 2 acre lawn at 40 years old.

Ashley's medical bills have fortunately been all covered but there are other ways she needs help, and has always been so modest to not ask for it.

Fortunately Ashley's family will be moving into her home to help continue her household this winter.

Things that have drained Ashley's families’ savings are the things not always thought of or easily covered:
  • Wear and tear on vehicles going back and forth to appointments.
  • More costs associated with people being sick at home,
  • getting Ashley's home ready for winter
  • getting Ashley's home ready to accommodate family moving in to help
  • extensive dental work to repair chemo damaged teeth

Ashley has always been there to help others, and I know that our Maine community (and beyond) can support her and her family in this trying time.
