On the evening of Saturday, July 3rd Andrea met some of her closest friends at a popular lounge in downtown Winston-Salem. Andrea’s friends helped in making a responsible decision by getting Andrea an Uber to get her home safely. Many of us use ride share services for that very reason, to get us to our destinations safely. While the app shows that the driver completed the trip around 12:45 AM, more information has shown that he actually continued driving Andrea around and made undesignated stops over a 3 hour time period that she has no recollection of. Although, the purpose of the Uber ride was to get Andrea home safely, the Uber driver disregarded his responsibility to do so, and eventually took her back to her vehicle around 3:30 AM and allowed her to drive herself. She then proceeded to try to drive herself home and ended up crashing in a single car accident moments later where she sustained incredibly traumatic injuries, resulting in being taken to Baptist Hospital. Her injuries are so severe that she was admitted into Trauma ICU where she was intibated and put on a ventilation system. If you see the photos of her car (attached) you will find it hard to believe that she was able to survive this crash. Not only did her pelvis break in half, she has several fractures throughout her lower body as well as a broken femur, a partially collapsed lung, bruising on her liver and spleen, and has wounds so deep and large on the lower part of her leg that it alone will require multiple surgeries of skin and muscle grafting. She has had a total of 4 surgeries so far with more to come. Andrea is a bright, young, adventurous, independent 23 year old women who has had her entire life altered. She will continue to be in the hospital for several more weeks, followed by rehab and 24 hour care as she will have to relearn how to walk. Even though she has endured an immense amount of trauma and pain, this has not diminished her bright and loving spirit. We are raising funds to support her with the exorbitant amount of medical bills and other miscellaneous bills she will have on this journey. For doing the right and smart thing in order to maintain her safety, Andrea is paying an awful and undeserving price. Any amount donated is helpful and so appreciated.
