Let's help Andréa get out and about!!

Hi,

My name is Jen and I am trying to help Andréa raise enough funds to buy a Power Wheelchair so she can be more independent. She has tried and LOVES the cute yellow Powerchair pictured here. It is easy to handle, very sturdy and safe, and, importantly, she looks fabulous in it!!

As you can imagine, the cost is quite high and, as she has not been able to work for almost 5 years, her income is very tight.

For those of you that do not know, Andréa had brain surgery 4 and a half years ago for a brain tumor. Since then she has been wheelchair bound and totally dependent on others for transportation. She is able to manage most of her personal needs in her home and has a bit of hired help for those things she cannot manage.

Andréa still holds out hope that she will one day walk (and drive) and I know we all hope for that as well. In the meantime, she is suffering emotionally from isolation and frustration at being dependent on others.

Right now she is using a very old and very heavy manual wheelchair which is difficult to push and feels unsteady when outside on sidewalks and roads. It is very difficult and unsafe for her to manage the chair on her own when not in her condo, so she only goes outside when she has someone to push her. As you can imagine, when she is out and about, she loves the social interactions, chatting with passers-by (both human and canine), and is in a fabulous mood.

If she could buy a Power Wheelchair she would be able to safely go outside in her neighborhood independently and she could even take the bus.

She also needs a light travel wheelchair that would fold and easily be placed in a trunk for those times she is being driven by someone for an outing or a medical appointment.

Let's raise these funds for Andréa so she can have her independence back. Any amount you can manage will be appreciated. Our goal is to have our beautiful, social, brave friend in a shiny new wheelchair by Christmas so that whenever she wants to, she can go look at Christmas lights and venture out to Christmas craft fairs in Sidney in comfort and style!
