This story is extremely close to my heart...and it is about Ami, my best friend, the Godmother of my children, a great mother and above all, a wonderful human being with the kindest soul. This is her story in her own words:
My story with Multiple Sclerosis started 24 years ago. I initially had symptoms but no diagnosis therefore, I was prescribed no medication.
Twenty-one years ago, I received the terrifying diagnosis: Multiple Sclerosis. The most challenging aspect is that no known therapy can cure it that is officially approved by medical forums. The only thing medication can do at the present time is to slow down the evolution of the disease. But there is some hope brought by the newest; let’s call them, alternative therapies. They are called alternative because they are not officially used in the United States or Europe yet. And when your life is turned upside down by a disease with such unpredictable, random symptoms, when your most natural and normal gestures become impossible, when the darkest scenarios and dreams suddenly overwhelm your life, when you don’t know if tomorrow you will be able to get up and take a step, if you need a hand to comb your hair or wash your face, then you just KNOW that you are ready to try anything that can give you a tiny bit of hope that your future will no longer be so bleak. And because I am determined to be part of my daughters’ lives, because I want to still be able to enjoy my family and friends, I decided to consider stem cell transplantation, the only treatment that, based on exceptional results recorded in the last 15 years, can stop the evolution of the disease and even help the regression of the disease.
For this treatment, however, I need EUR 50,000, which I hope to be able to raise in various ways, including fundraisers, swim-a-thons, silent auctions, bake sales and more. Please consider donating even a couple of dollars today, so I can reach my goal and get a chance to have a normal life.
