Agulha Needs Our Help!
We are an organic farm in the Douro region, where animals are truly part of the family.
On May 21st, 2021, we welcomed two Mirandese donkeys from AEPGA: Novelo (2 years old) and Agulha (8 months old). It was a memorable day — our farm gained two new members full of tenderness and joy.
Unfortunately, in 2023 we discovered that Agulha had a sarcoid tumor. Since then, he has undergone three surgeries, cryotherapy, and other treatments, but the tumor has returned. In recent months we even heard the hardest word: euthanasia.
But we refused to give up. We reached out to veterinarians in Portugal, Ireland, and the USA and received innovative treatment protocols. Now, a new hope has arisen: the Equine Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lisbon, where Agulha could be operated on in a hospital setting with access to complementary therapies such as chemotherapy.
However, the costs are very high, and we have already faced significant expenses. That is why we are opening this crowdfunding:
To give Agulha the treatments he needs;
To allow him to live many more years alongside his inseparable brother Novelo (yes, a donkey can live 40–50 years!).
Agulha is a sweet, sociable animal, adored by everyone who visits us. He is part of our family — and now we need your help so that he can have the long and happy life he deserves.

O Agulha precisa da nossa ajuda!
Somos uma quinta em produção biológica no Douro, onde os animais são parte da família.
No dia 21 de maio de 2021, recebemos dois burros mirandeses da AEPGA: o Novelo (2 anos) e o Agulha (8 meses). Foi um dia memorável — a nossa quinta ganhou dois novos membros cheios de ternura e alegria.
Infelizmente, em 2023 descobrimos que o Agulha tinha um tumor sarcoide. Desde então já foi operado três vezes, fez crioterapia e outros tratamentos, mas o tumor voltou a crescer. Nos últimos meses ouvimos até a palavra mais dura: eutanásia.
Mas não desistimos. Contactámos veterinários em Portugal, Irlanda e EUA e recebemos protocolos de tratamento inovadores. Agora temos uma nova esperança: o Hospital de Equinos da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária de Lisboa, que poderá operar o Agulha em ambiente hospitalar, com acesso a terapias complementares como a quimioterapia.
Os custos, porém, são muito elevados, e já tivemos despesas significativas. Por isso, abrimos este crowdfunding:
Para dar ao Agulha os tratamentos que precisa;
Para que ele possa viver muitos anos ao lado do seu inseparável irmão Novelo (sim, um burro pode viver 40–50 anos!).
O Agulha é um animal doce, sociável e adorado por todos os que nos visitam. Ele é parte da nossa família — e agora precisamos da vossa ajuda para que possa ter a vida longa e feliz que merece.
