Let's Give Lydia One More Chance

All throughout Lydia's short, 4.5 year life, she's occasionally experienced hard to diagnose and treat health conditions. She almost died two years ago from an autoimmune disease. Her current affliction is mycobacterium avium.

Last night we took her to the ER because her breathing has been getting more labored. She has been on oxygen and had fluid drained. While we were hoping to take her home this afternoon, the fluids have already started to build back up.

She is being given the best possible care as this same hospital saved her two years ago. But they are not cheap.

My current plan is to try and get her through the next few days with the hopes that the new antibiotics she just started will have a chance to work. There are still no guarantees that they will.

We are being very realistic about this. We value her quality of life and will not do anything that would lessen that just so we could have her longer. Right now, we just want to give her one more chance. She's gotten through life-threatening events before. I know she's a fighter.
